Bollywood Singer Pamela Chopra passes away at 74

Bollywood stars have paid tribute after Pamela Chopra, the wife of the late Yash Chopra, passed away at the age of 74.

Pamela Chopra, the wife of the late Yash Chopra, has passed away at the age of 74.

It is reported that she died in Mumbai after being admitted to Lilavati hospital.

In a statement, the Chopra family said:

“With heavy hearts the Chopra family would like to inform you that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning.

“Her cremation took place at 11 am today.

“We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection.”

The announcement led to an outpouring of tributes from Bollywood stars, who recognised the impact she had on the industry.

Anupam Kher said: “Saw the friendship of the world, All separated one by one. Goodbye Pam Chopra!!

“You and Yash ji were an integral and important part of my years in Mumbai!

“I always considered your smile as one of the beautiful gifts given to me by life. I was lucky that I got to spend a lot of time with you! Om Shanti!”

Sanjay Dutt tweeted: “My heart is heavy with the news of Pamela aunty’s passing.

“Her impact on the industry and the lives she touched will always be remembered.”

Ajay Devgn said: “My thoughts and prayers are with Adi, Rani, Uday and all members of the Chopra family in their hour of grief. RIP respected Pam Chopra Ji. Om Shanti.”

Pamela Chopra was a prominent figure in Bollywood, having worked as a singer, writer, dress designer and co-producer of many Yash Raj Films.

She sang a number of iconic songs for hit films such as Kabhi KabhieNoorie, Kaala Patthar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Mujhse Dosti Karoge!

Pamela also wrote Kabhi Kabhie and co-wrote Dil To Pagal Hai.

She was very passionate about music and Yash Chopra would make sure that his wife was a part of the music sittings of his films.

Pamela was last seen in the Netflix documentary The Romantics in which she spoke about her husband’s journey in cinema.

She said:

“Music is my passion. Yash knew that and he would invite me to attend the music sittings.”

“Slowly, I became a part of that group.”

Her actor son Uday said in the documentary:

“My mother had a really good sense of music and song. We have this gadda room in our house, the music room, which was specifically created for a creatively inducive environment.

Pamela and Yash got married in 1970 and remained together until the latter’s death in 2012.

She is survived by her two sons Aditya and Uday Chopra.
