A Bollywood makeup artist and rickshaw driver were arrested on December 10, 2020, after they were caught with 11g of cocaine.

They were also found with Rs. 56,000 (£570) in cash, believed to be the proceeds from drug sales.

The NCB has identified the suspects as Suraj Godambe and Yadav.

NCB officials said that the pair were arrested in Oshiwara, Andheri West, and were in possession of 16 packets of cocaine, along with Rs. 56,000 in cash.

NCB Director Sameer Wankhede said: “Initial investigation revealed that one of the arrested persons, Suraj Godambe, is a hairstylist by profession.”

Godambe, who works as a hairstylist and makeup artist, has worked alongside some big production companies within Bollywood.

A statement said that Godambe was the receiver of the drugs while Yadav was the supplier. Yadav reportedly works on behalf of a Nigerian syndicate.

Both men were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The pair have been remanded in custody until December 16, 2020.

Hindustan Times reported that the NCB is investigating to find out whether Godambe was involved in procuring drugs to any celebrities.

The arrests come as the NCB continues their crackdown on drugs.

Over the past few days, the NCB has conducted searches in Mumbai and have arrested two suspects with connections to Bollywood.

The men are said to be major drug suppliers and were identified as Jitendra Jain and Mohammad Azam Shaikh.

They were found in possession of Rs. 2.5 Crore (£255,000) worth of cannabis, ecstasy pills and cash.

According to NCB officials, the seizures were made from Shaikh’s residence in Andheri West, and it was one of the biggest in recent times.

The NCB have been investigating the supply and use of drugs within Bollywood since the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Bollywood stars and their family members, which have included Deepika Padukone and Arjun Rampal, have been questioned by the agency in connection with drugs cartels working in the film industry.

Around 28 people within showbiz have been arrested, including Bharti Singh, her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa and brother of Arjun Rampal’s partner Agisilaos Demetriades.

The most high-profile arrest was Rhea Chakraborty, who was accused of procuring drugs for her late boyfriend Sushant.

Questioning resulted in a drugs angle being probed and the subsequent arrests.

Rhea remained in prison for almost a month before she was released on bail in October 2020.
