Bollywood [stars] have it all; the success, recognition and most importantly the style.
No matter where they go Bollywood stars are always making a name for themselves, and it’s not solely down to their successful careers.
Making the correct fashion statement is crucial for these celebs. But keeping up with them needn’t be a problem because we have all you desire to know right here, right now.
The best thing about being a style icon in Bollywood, is that you can pull off almost anything, from traditional wear to modern day ensembles.
Although the superiors of B-Town are busy making their big money through the film industry, they never fail to show their fans a bit of modesty, yes, they too sport high street brands to compensate for their expensive taste.
Amitabh Bachchan
The Big B of Bollywood certainly likes to wear trendy outfits that compliment both his age and his status. High-end brands like Dolce and Gabbana are often modelled by the actor waiting to be captured by the paparazzi.
As for his show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, the star’s outfits will continue to be designed by one of India’s renowned fashion designers, Rohit Bal. The finished look usually comprises of the signature scarf with Bachchan’s trademark glasses creating the ultimate studious appeal.
The veteran legend is definitely an inspiration for the younger generation of actors hoping to fill his shoes. Despite his age, Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly a distinctive Bollywood style icon.
Deepika Padukone
There is no escaping this Bollywood actress when we talk of fashion. From Zara to Burberry to Manish Malhotra, this Bollywood star showcases it all. The epitome of versatility is certainly another name for Deepika Padukone and her variable fashion sense. The great thing about her wardrobe is that it encompasses almost every look!
For the 58th Filmfare Awards she wore a risqué evening gown designed by Prabal Gurung teamed with Christian Louboutins. A year later at the 59th Filmfare Awards, Deepika opted for a more traditional appeal as she donned a black net Sabyasachi saree.
Padukone’s street style is equally stylish and always demands attention from the media. She is often spotted sporting figure hugging tank tops and shorts. In an interview with Filmfare, Deepika claimed that being comfortable is the secret behind her amazing ensembles. She added that her favourite shades to wear are neutrals, especially white.
Ranbir Kapoor
His successful acting career is not a product of his famous family, but Ranbir himself. His persona along with his youthful fashion sense is what makes Ranbir Kapoor a loveable Bollywood figure.
Checkered shirts layered with a waistcoat are a trademark for Kapoor. The youthful look is completed with bed head hair and casual jeans.
But as people come to terms with this rough and tough Bollywood actor he proves us all wrong by switching to a more sophisticated and masculine sense of style. In an interview with BBC Asian Network in October 2013, Kapoor donned business attire, with a stripy tie contrasting his monochrome suit.
Sonam Kapoor
If there is anyone who knows how to experiment with fashion then Sonam Kapoor is at the top. She is known for her meticulous sense of style, including her complimentary accessories.
The fashionista’s favourite designers include Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Elie Saab; and Naeem Khan and Manish Arora amongst Indian designers.
Sonam’s style includes almost everything and anything – she’ll try it all. From multi-coloured prints to the simplicity of black and white outfits, the Bollywood actress suits anything!
Whilst her airport style consists of casual trousers, a chiffon blouse and a black blazer, Sonam’s ‘Bollywood’ presence was definitely felt on the sets of her film Raanjhanaa’s promotion earlier in 2013. She wore an off-white Anamika Khanna creation with her hair neatly pinned to the sides for an elegant look.
In an interview with Filmfare, Sonam said: “Fashion is an extension of who you are.” For Sonam, whether it’s designer or market stalls in India, fashion is all the same, as she admits to making excessive purchases at both.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
For this Bollywood Diva, high fashion and haute couture are a must. Releasing her own book, The Style Diary Of A Bollywood Diva in February 2013, Kareena offers her tips and advice on how to wear clothes in an elegant and classy way.
Her favourite brands and designers include, Zara, Topshop, Superdry, Alexander McQueen, Dolce and Gabbana, Elie Saab, Roberto Cavalli, Armani Prive, Vivienne Westwood, Paule ka, Manish Malhotra, Masaba Gupta, Rohit Gandhi, Rahul Khanna, and Namrata Joshipura.
Despite her mix of Western and Eastern favourites, Kareena admits that nothing beats wearing traditional Indian clothes:
“I think a woman looks best in a sari. Saif [Ali Khan] always tells me to wear a sari. I think the problem is that we always try to ape the West. But we have to dress according to the occasion. Sometime saris, sometimes a dress.”
Of course, these are not the only Bollywood stars with great fashion sense. Celebs such as Ranveer Singh (see our exclusive feature on Ranveer’s style) and Priyanka Chopra are just some of B-town’s hotties who are making headlines with their quirky and stylish fashion trends.
Don’t underestimate Bollywood – they really have it all; the success, recognition and most importantly the style. Following in their footsteps may not be an easy task but following their fashion style is a good start!
