ALA Insurance also analysed scratch and dent claims
Data has found that BMW owners are the most ‘unlucky’ in the United Kingdom.
This is according to 500 scratch, dent and wheel claims data analysed by car GAP insurance provider, ALA Insurance.
BMW models topped the list for unfortunate claims, accounting for 20% of all claims.
As a result, BMW owners are the UK’s unluckiest drivers when it comes to bumps and scratches you need to claim.
In second place is Mercedes-Benz, with 14% and that is not the only German car manufacturer as Audi is also in the top five, making up nine per cent of claims.
Luxury brands Land Rover and Tesla make up the rest of the top five.
ALA Insurance also analysed scratch and dent claims to determine the car parts that are most susceptible to damage.
The research found that car bumpers are the most likely part of a car to get damaged, accounting for 35% of all claims made.
Twenty-eight per cent of claims are in relation to doors while bonnets account for eight per cent.
Simon England, Founder and Managing Director of the leading car gap insurance company, said:
“It was interesting to analyse our recent claims data and find that BMWs are the most common car to be claimed on for cosmetic and minor car damage, including scratch and dent and tyres and alloy wheel damage.
“At ALA Insurance, we always recommend additional car cover, including the likes of scratches and dents.”
“Though it’s not a legal requirement, we know that repairing even minor scratches and damage can be hugely costly to car owners, even the simplest damage can ruin a car’s aesthetic.
“Right now, cars are getting bigger and car parking spaces are not.
“Parking in residential areas can often be tricky too and cars can be easily damaged.
“Car owners should take pride in their cars, and getting additional insurance to cover cosmetic damage can ensure your car stays in pristine condition and you don’t have to worry about annoying and costly repairs.”
