Babar has fallen "prey" to cousin marriage.
According to reports, Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam will marry his cousin sometime in 2022.
Sources have said that Babar will be marrying his paternal uncle’s daughter after both families mutually agreed to the marriage.
The report by Geo News came to light a day after ex-cricket captain Azhar Ali had teased Babar to tie the knot.
Azhar was hosting a Q&A session with his fans on Twitter.
One fan asked if he had any advice for Babar.
Azhar jokingly responded by saying Babar should get married, saying: “Shadi ker lay (get married).”
The reports that Babar Azam would be marrying his cousin sent social media into a frenzy.
Netizens tweeted about the matter, giving their thoughts.
One user said Babar has fallen “prey” to cousin marriage.
Another person asked: “So Babar Azam got engaged to his father’s sister’s daughter?”
Others began trolling the cricketer after hearing the marriage reports.
One person said that if Babar cannot escape marriage to his cousin, then nor can any other Pakistani man.
A second wrote: “Everything is temporary but cousin marriage is permanent.”
A third said that no matter how famous or rich a person is, they cannot escape their aunt’s daughter.
Although reports are circulating, there has been no official confirmation from Babar.
Babar Azam is regarded as one of the best batsmen of the present era.
He was named Pakistan’s captain in limited-overs cricket in 2019 following Sarfaraz Ahmed’s dismissal.
In November 2020, Babar was appointed as the captain of the Pakistan Test team.
He since became the first Pakistani player to win his first four Test matches as captain.
Babar was last seen in action for Pakistan during their tour of Zimbabwe in April and May 2021 where he led his side to a 2-1 win in the three-match T20I series.
In the three matches, Babar scored 95 runs.
The first match saw Pakistan win by 11 runs.
In the second T20I, Pakistan suffered a shock defeat, losing by 19 runs.
Pakistan clinched the series after they won by 24 runs in the final match.
In the third match, Babar became the fastest batsman, in terms of innings, to score 2,000 runs in T20Is, doing so in his 52nd innings.
Individually, Babar Azam remains the number one ranked ODI batsman in the world ahead of India’s captain Virat Kohli.
