Amir Khan is in talks for a boxing comeback against Manny Pacquiao but Carl Froch has advised Khan not to fight the Filipino legend.

In October 2023, Khan revealed that discussions are ongoing for a fight against eight-weight world champion Pacquiao.

Khan last fought Kell Brook in 2022 and suffered a sixth-round TKO.

He then announced his retirement before it was revealed that he had failed a drug test and received a two-year ban, which will end in April 2024.

Speaking about a potential boxing comeback, Amir Khan said:

“You’ve been hearing rumours Manny Pacquiao is in town.

“We are in talks. We’ve spoken a few times and that fight could happen. There’s a lot of interest in that fight between Manny Pacquiao and myself.

“Manny is in town so this is where me and him will have a sit down. If it happens (the fight) here or somewhere else it would be great.

“If I fight Manny Pacquiao I think it will be a brilliant fight.

“I’ve always looked up to him and we know each other quite well.”

Pacquiao appeared to walk away from boxing after losing his WBA (super) welterweight title to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021.

But given that he did not formally announce his retirement, a boxing return is a possibility for Pacquiao.

Although Khan appears to want the fight, Carl Froch has advised him to stay retired, believing that a fight would end in disaster for the Brit.

On his YouTube channel, the former super-middleweight champion spoke about Pacquiao and said:

“He’s a solid, fierce competitor, 44 years old, a big puncher.

“A punch is the last thing to go from a professional boxer.

“Amir Khan calling out Pacquiao is purely for money, and he needs to be careful.”

“We saw him against Brook, he got hit with a jab and his legs turned to Bambi.

“He can’t take a punch. His punch resistance has gone.

“He’s had a great career, his service to boxing has been unbelievable – he won a silver medal and went on to have a great career.

“To fight Pacquiao now, the writing is on the wall.

“I know Pacquiao’s 44 years old, but he’s still gonna knock out Amir Khan. He needs to stick to whatever he’s doing. I think he’s promoting or trying to get into that side.

“Do not fight Pacquiao, it’s dangerous, keep the gloves hung up, Amir.”
