Akshay Kumar’s mother Aruna Bhatia passed away on the morning of September 8, 2021.
The Bollywood megastar shared the news on Twitter and also expressed his grief.
In the emotional post, Akshay said:
“She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence.
“My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world.
“I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti.”

After hearing about the loss, fellow Bollywood personalities paid their condolences.
Ajay Devgn said: “Dear Akki, Heartfelt condolences on your mother’s passing away.
“May Arunaji’s soul find eternal peace. Condolences to you and your family. Om Shanti.”
Parineeti Chopra expressed her sadness, writing:
“Sorry to hear about aunty Akshay sir… We are praying for her and the entire family Akshay Kumar.”
Huma Qureshi said: “Sending you prayers and peace Sir. Om Shanti.”
Pooja Bhatt wrote: “My deepest and most sincere condolences!
“May you navigate this phase and the years ahead with love and strength.”
Hansal Mehta tweeted: “Heartfelt condolences and prayers for strength to your family and you.”
On September 7, 2021, Akshay had stated that it was a “tough hour” for his family. He asked fans to pay for his mother.
In a Twitter post, he wrote:
“Touched beyond words at your concern for my mom’s health.
“This is a very tough hour for me and my family. Every single prayer of yours would greatly help.”
Aruna had been unwell for several days and was admitted to Hiranandani Hospital.
Akshay Kumar had been in the UK shooting his upcoming film Cinderella. He returned to Mumbai on September 6, 2021, to be with his mother.
In 2015, Akshay spoke about his relationship with his mother.
He had said: “The bond between a mother and her son is so strong yet so gentle… nothing could come between us, no amount of miles or continents can keep us from letting each other know every day that I would be nothing and no one without her.”
Akshay was last seen in Bell Bottom, which was the first major Bollywood film to release in cinemas after India’s Covid-19 second wave.
The spy-thriller also starred Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta.
Akshay has other upcoming projects such as Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey and Raksha Bandhan.
