"Let the project get locked, then I will talk."
Akshay Kumar and veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan are teaming up again for a new comedy set in the 1970s.
Akshay will portray a quirky tiger hunter in the yet-untitled film.
The film holds a significant milestone for Priyadarshan as it will mark his remarkable 99th feature film as a director.
The project is produced by Ramesh Taurani and reunites the actor-director duo following their multiple recent collaborations.
According to a report, the film is slated to go on floors in the final week of November 2026, with production beginning very soon.
The shooting schedule is expected to span approximately three months and will take the production to some of India’s most scenic and historically rich locations.
Filming will take place across wildlife locations in Rajasthan as well as on a dedicated set being constructed in Mumbai for the production.
The production team is also reportedly scouting potential locations in Bhopal.
This suggests that the film’s 1970s setting will be brought to life across multiple cities.
The ensemble cast already features veteran comedy actors Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav.
Casting for the film’s female lead is currently still underway, with no official announcement having been made about who will take on the role.
The film’s script has been co-written by Priyadarshan alongside Rohan Shankar.
He previously collaborated with the director on the horror comedy Bhooth Bangla.
When approached for comment, Priyadarshan kept his cards firmly close to his chest on the details of the upcoming production.
He said: “Let the project get locked, then I will talk.”
The new project is the third collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan.
They most recently worked together on the psychological thriller Haiwaan in 2026, which also featured Saif Ali Khan in the lead role.
Haiwaan was jointly produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films and serves as an official remake of the acclaimed 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam.
Before Haiwaan, Priyadarshan had directed Akshay in Bhooth Bangla, a horror comedy that released in April 2026.
Bhooth Bangla was jointly produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films.
The film featured an impressive ensemble including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi, all delivering memorable performances.
It was co-written by Priyadarshan, Abhilash Nair and Rohan Shankar.
The latter is now continuing his writing partnership with Priyadarshan on the new tiger hunter comedy featuring Akshay Kumar.
