"The Tiger joke was best with Disha! Her expression.”
Akshay Kumar left Disha Patani red-faced with his joke about her split from rumoured boyfriend Tiger Shroff.
He and Disha appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show, along with Mouni Roy, Nora Fatehi and Sonam Bajwa.
During the show, he made a joke about each of the women.
His joke about Mouni referenced her Naagin role as he said:
“She just got married, she is worried about this.
“Because she has played the role of a serpent, people give beans to her husband as a gift.”
With a smile on her face, Mouni says: “So bad.”
Akshay then turned his attention to Disha and said:
“Disha Patani, she loves to travel but because of this, there is tension that if she goes on a safari, she might not find a tiger there.”
Disha laughed at the joke and Akshay even gave her a hug.
The subtle reference to her breakup led to an array of comments on social media.
One said: “The Tiger joke was best with Disha! Her expression.”
Another wrote: “Akshay is so cheeky.”
But some did not see the funny side, with one saying:
“I can’t believe that Indians listen to this rubbish and laugh.”
Another called it a “personal attack”.
Although Disha and Tiger never confirmed their relationship, their supposed breakup shocked fans. Many believed the split was due to the relationship being one-sided.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee continues to struggle at the box office.
His live tour, The Entertainers, has also experienced problems, with his New Jersey concert being cancelled.
Apart from Akshay, Mouni Roy, Disha Patani, Nora Fatehi, Sonam Bajwa, Aparshakti Khurana, Zara Khan, and singers Jasleen Royal and Stebin Ben are part of the tour.
On the cancellation of the New Jersey concert, the show’s promoter Amit Jaity said it was due to the “extremely slow sales of tickets”.
In a statement, he said: “In the spirit of full transparency, the main reason for the cancellation is the extremely slow sales of tickets for the show.
“We hold our beloved audience and their expectations from us at the highest level. We strive to deliver nothing but quality shows in the tri-state area.
“But, there are times when things just don’t work out in our favour and we have to make tough choices and make the hardest decisions.”
The next performance will take place in Atlanta, Georgia on March 3, 2023.
