"he was so worried about MY SON Kashu"
Kash Patel is in the headlines for several reasons.
He is Donald Trump’s pick for FBI Director but it was also reported that his father reacted to Joe Biden’s pardon to his son Hunter.
Hunter was convicted of three federal firearms-related felony charges in June 2024 after he had admitted to illegally owning a gun while a drug user.
He also pleaded guilty to all of the tax charges against him.
But on December 1, 2024, he was pardoned by his father, who claimed the charges were “selective” and “political”.
The news was widespread, with Republicans and some Democrats criticising the outgoing President’s decision.
But Newsweek’s report of the pardon went viral as it included a mention from an individual named Dr Parik Patel.
The report stated that Dr Patel is the father of Kash Patel and it read:
“A surprising voice to weigh in on the pardon is Dr Parik Patel, father of FBI director nominee Kash Patel.”
According to Newsweek, the “elder Patel” had said that the fear of Kash Patel becoming FBI chief was the main reason behind Joe Biden’s pardon of his son.
Dr Patel’s tweet read: “Biden decided to pardon Hunter because he was so worried about MY SON Kashu becoming director of the FBI that he decided to pardon his son… of all crimes.”

However, Newsweek’s article led to a humiliating turn of events.
Dr Parik Patel is not Kash Patel’s father. In actual fact, it is the name of a popular parody account with over 718,000 followers.
The account offers amusing views on politics and the economy.
On X, many pointed out the blunder, with one person writing:
“The amount of people not realising this is a parody account…”
Referring to Hunter, another posted:
“Your son would definitely have arrested him.”
A third jokingly commented: “You must be so proud! You raised a global hero! Thank you, sir!”

Others criticised Newsweek for mistakenly citing the account as a reliable source and believing that Dr Patel was Kash Patel’s father.
One person sarcastically wrote: “The level of their research and journalism.”
Another posted: “Pathetic. The news editor should be grilled.”
A comment read: “Low IQ journalists are ruling legacy media.”
As for Dr Parik Patel, the account has also referred to Elon Musk and YouTuber Mr Beast as his “son” in the past.
Meanwhile, Newsweek later removed the incorrect sentence and wrote:
“Corrects to move incorrect reference to Parik Patel.”
