"I wish my government workers only celebrated American holidays.”

FBI Director Kash Patel’s Holi greeting on X has sparked debate among users.

While many praised his post, others argued that government officials should only acknowledge American holidays.

Patel shared a photo of a person in a white outfit covered in vibrant gulal.

He wrote: “Happy Holi—The Festival of Colors.”

Many applauded the post, with one writing:

“Now this is a holiday I could get to like… Especially the GOOD over EVIL part.

“Holi marks the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil, rooted in the legend of Holika and Prahlad.

“It’s a time for people to come together, forgive past grievances, and renew relationships.

“The festival is famous for its playful traditions—people throw coloured powders (gulal) and water at each other, sing, dance, and feast.

“Bonfires are lit the night before (Holika Dahan) to symbolise burning away negativity.”

Another wrote: “Happy Holi! A beautiful celebration of colour, joy, and renewal.”

A third said: “Wishing everyone a joyful and vibrant Holi!”

Others echoed similar sentiments, calling the festival “joyful and vibrant”.

However, some were critical of Kash Patel’s Holi post, wondering why an American national was posting about an Indian festival.

This led to racist comments, as one stated:

“This is America.”

Another said: “I wish my government workers only celebrated American holidays.”

A comment read: “Cringe. You realise we don’t celebrate this holiday in America. Read the room. We don’t want to hear about this.”

One person said: “Foreigners working for the United States government should not be celebrating their home country’s religious holidays.

“This is America, not India, we don’t celebrate Holi, you should return to India and work for the Indian government.”

“Again this is America, not India Kash.”

Kash Patel’s post also led some to highlight the issues going on during Holi celebrations in India.

Videos circulating on social media show groups of men using the festival of colours as a reason to harass and molest women.

Kash Patel has always stayed connected to his Indian heritage.

In February 2025, he was confirmed as the FBI Director and when he was officially sworn in, he took his oath on the Bhagavad Gita, a moment that resonated with many US Indians.
