Ajay Devgn has announced the release date of his highly-anticipated Maidaan.
Based on the golden era of Indian football, the biographical film sees Ajay Devgn in the role of the late Syed Abdul Rahim who managed the Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963.
Maidaan is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Zee Studios.
Shooting for Maidaan was postponed multiple times due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Cyclone Tauktae also meant filming had to be postponed as the set was destroyed. The cyclone hit Mumbai in May 2021.
However, the film is now finally ready and the release date was announced on September 30, 2021.
Ajay took to Twitter to make the release date announcement.
He tweeted: “Maidaan, a story that will resonate with every Indian, a film that I feel very strongly about.
“Mark the date on your calendar.
“Releasing worldwide on 3rd June 2022.”

Amit, the director of Maidaan, praised Ajay’s performance and said:
“The level of dedication Ajay Sir has shown has to be seen to be believed.
“He has not only sharpened his skills as a footballer, he made sure he was all there for the project from the word go.
“Maidaan couldn’t have been made without Ajay Sir. I think he deserves another National Award.”
Maidaan also features Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh in lead roles.
Janvhi Kapoor also took to her Instagram Story to share several Maidaan movie posters.
The actress’s father, Boney Kapoor, is one of the producers for Maidaan.
The producer also took to Twitter to share the release date.
He tweeted: “The unknown true story that will make every Indian proud, Maidaan, to release worldwide in cinemas on 3rd June 2022.”
Boney produced the film alongside Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta.
Ajay is currently filming his OTT debut Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness.
He will also be seen in Drishyam 2 alongside Tabu. Drishyam 2 is set to release in December 2021.
On September 16, 2021, Hyderabad FC announced a partnership with the film.
The partnership aims to give a boost to grassroots football in Hyderabad and the whole of India.
Varun Tripuraneni, co-founder of Hyderabad FC said:
“We are honoured and delighted to be associated with the Maidaan film.
“The partnership will celebrate the legacy of Syed Abdul Rahim Sahab, who has been an inspiration not only to the football players in Hyderabad but across the footballing community in India.”
Maidaan is scheduled to release on June 3, 2022.
