"one empowering woman will carry the name of Pakistan"
Pakistan is set to make its debut at the prestigious Miss Universe pageant and five models are competing against one another to represent their country.
Miss Universe is the world’s longest-running and most-watched beauty pageant.
After over 200 applicants, the five Miss Universe Pakistan finalists were selected and took part in a photoshoot that was organised in the Maldives.
They were dressed by Filipino designer Furne One, whose Amato Label is based in Dubai.
The five finalists are:
- Erica Rabin, aged 24, of Karachi
- Hira Inam, aged 24, of Lahore
- Jessica Wilson, aged 28, of Rawalpindi
- Malika Alvi, aged 19, of USA
- Sabrina Wasim, aged 26, of Punjab
Erica aspires to see a positive change in Pakistan and wants to shed light on diversity, education and women’s empowerment.
Hira says her goal in life is to be successful and wishes to raise funds and awareness in a bid to end poverty.
She also hopes to offer education to those who cannot afford it.
Jessica is a cyber security engineer, who is also a keen traveller, public speaker and a performing artist.
Malika is the youngest finalist and she believes that success can be achieved in more than one field. As well as being a student and entrepreneur, she is a content writer, dancer, and fashion designer.
Her wish is to portray Pakistani women as being capable and holding leadership skills.
Sabrina has a career as a property consultant. She is also an event host and choreographer.
She was inspired to apply for Miss Universe Pakistan after a meeting with Miss Universe 2022 Harnaaz Sandhu.
Sabrina expressed a desire to show Pakistani women as being strong and courageous.
The winner will be crowned and will go on to represent Pakistan at Miss Universe, which will be held in El Salvador in November 2023.
Josh Yugen, the national director of Miss Universe Pakistan, said:
“For the first time in the history of the biggest competition of its kind, one empowering woman will carry the name of Pakistan across her heart.
“But moreover, she is carrying the riveting stories of more than 210 million Pakistanis from all over the world.”
Miss Universe Pakistan will be crowned on September 14, 2023.
It is believed that over 60 countries have named their representatives for Miss Universe and the grand finale is to take place on November 18, 2023.
The United States’ Urbani Nola Gabriel is the current title holder and will crown the new winner.
