Ranbir Kapoor is all set to lead the cast in the upcoming Ramayana saga.
The first look of the series was released on July 3, 2025.
Ranbir will be seen in the central role of Rama in a cinematic experience that promises to be nothing short of mesmeric.
The series has been directed by Nitesh Tiwari, famous for films including Dangal (2016) and Chhichhore (2019).
Namit Malhotra, of the Academy Award-winning studio DNEG, has produced the series.
The first look of Ramayana was a three-minute clip which showed grand special effects and introduced the principal cast.
The teaser said: “When their creation threatened to take over the three worlds, the war to end all wars began.
“This is the immortal story of Rama vs Ravana.”
Fleeting glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Yash as Ravana were shown.
Ramayana has been produced over two parts, scheduled to be released over the Diwali period of 2026 and 2027.
The first look elicited positive responses from viewers.
One fan wrote: “Blockbuster. This will make history in Indian cinema.”
Another added: “As a Ranbir Kapoor fan, I couldn’t have asked for more. Treat for my eyes and soul.”
Previously, Yash spoke enthusiastically about portraying Ravana in Ramayana.
He had said: “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason.
“In Ramayana, if you had asked me to play any other character, probably not.
“For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor.
“So I really like the shades and the nuances of the particular character.
“There’s a vast scope to present it in a very different way.
“As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with Deadline Hollywood, Ranbir had enthused:
“Ramayana is India’s greatest story. It’s produced by Namit Malhotra, who owns DNEG, which is a studio in Los Angeles and London.
“It’s made over two parts and is the story of Rama and Ravana.
“To say it to this generation with the technology we have is very exciting and gratifying.”
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
Sunny Deol will also appear as Hanuman.
The music for the film has been jointly composed by Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
It has been reported that the cast will also feature actors including Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kajal Aggarwal.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor has several other projects lined up including Love & War, Animal Park, and Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev.
