"I can only apologise as much as I can."
Television actress Yuvika Chaudhary has opened up about being arrested for making a casteist remark.
In a video that went viral earlier in 2021, Yuvika had made a casteist comment. This led to outrage on social media, with many calling for her arrest.
She then issued a statement, apologising for the comment.
Yuvika was subsequently arrested on October 18, 2021, before being released on bail.
The Bigg Boss 9 contestant has now opened up on the matter, revealing that she “had to leave everything and go for the investigations”.
Yuvika explained: “I didn’t know until a few days ago that a case had been filed against me.
“When I got a notice, I was in Pune shooting for a project. I had to leave everything and go for the investigations.
“As a law-abiding citizen of India, law comes above everything else for me and hence I travelled immediately to Haryana.
“There the police asked me several questions and they even have the phone through which the video was uploaded.
“I am back in Mumbai now but I hope everything gets sorted soon.
“Six months ago, I had said that I didn’t use the word for anyone and I didn’t even know the meaning of it.
“I can never do such a thing. But now since it has happened, I can only apologise as much as I can.”
Yuvika added that she had to face additional consequences for being a public figure.
Following the backlash, Yuvika Chaudhary apologised for her comments. She had said:
Hi guys, I didn’t know the meaning of that word I used in my last vlog. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone and I can never do that to hurt someone.
“I apologise to each and every one. I hope you understand, love you all.”
Her husband, Prince Narula, came to her support and took the blame.
Prince Narula, who had filmed the video, said:
“None of us knew the meaning of the word.
“When we received your messages, we looked it up online and we felt really bad.
“Yuvi immediately edited it soon after. I hope you guys understand nothing was done intentionally.
“We didn’t know the meaning of the word. Even I was there, if it is Yuvi’s fault, it is my fault as well. We both didn’t know the meaning of the word.
“We are really sorry if we hurt anyone, we love you guys.
“We are the last people who would believe in caste.”
