"mainstream organisations don’t really acknowledge what Asian business is doing"

The 2016 Bedfordshire Asian Business Association (BABA) Awards took place on Saturday 10th September 2016, at The Addison Centre Kempston in Bedford.

Now in its fifth year, the BABA awards celebrate the success of the Asian business community in Bedfordshire, as well as using its collective power to improve business development across the UK.

The glitzy black tie event had all the biggest business names in Bedford dressed up to the nines and all in good spirits. Amongst them was the Mayor of Bedford, David Hodgson, who had the following to say:

“We have a very diverse community that gives Bedford its soul but also it’s entrepreneurial spirit as you can see from today.”

There were speeches from Chief Constable John Boutcher on his efforts trying to make the police services a more diverse place and CEO of Post Office Limited Paula Vennells on the importance of Asian post office businesses.

The Chairman of BABA Jasbir Singh Parmar said these particular awards were put in place as: “The mainstream business organisations don’t really acknowledge what Asian business is doing and the BABA awards are a platform and a united voice for Asian achievements.”

Bedford and Kempston MP Richard Fuller echoed these statements on the significance of the awards for the Asian community:

“Now we are looking at a new future for our country, we need to excite people about the opportunities for business all across the world and that is what BABA does.”
