Why hasn’t Kshmr worked in Bollywood Much?

The renowned DJ and music producer Kshmr shed a light on why he has not worked in Bollywood much.

Kshmr kicked off his career in 2003 and has gone on to become a prominent figure in the music industry, producing hit tracks and performing popular singles.

Born Niles Hollowell-Dhar, the musician is of Indian heritage but has American nationality.

Delving into his notable absence from the Indian film industry, Kshmr said:

“I have done a little bit of work now composing for film and even a theme song for the Bollywood film, Good Newwz, but I find myself more interested in creating dance music and music where I generally have full autonomy.

“I’ve done a little work on a Bollywood movie and the truth is, I think I really admire the skill sets of composers who work in that space but it’s not exactly my skill set.

“Although, that could change in the future and I am a big fan of Bollywood music.

“I’m currently on tour around the world, and I’ve been working hard at freshening up my show with new music.

“In May, I’ll take a break and step away for creating for a bit but the next project I’ll be focused on is a deep house EP, with heavy Indian influence.”

Good Newwz starred Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in lead roles.

Kshmr contributed to the theme music of the film.

Speaking about the film in 2019, the producer shared: “I’m actually working on this Bollywood theme for this movie that is coming out.

“It is called Good Newwz and I’m really excited about that.

“I did this beat for it and it’s a really cool beat.”

Kshmr recently collaborated with Zaeden and King on a song titled ‘Aawara‘.

Speaking about it, Kshmr enthused:

“It was a long time coming to work with Zaeden.”

“He has been a friend of mine for many years and when I had the opportunity to work with King, who is a mega star, I thought it could be incredible to put these two talented singers together.

“‘Aawara’ is a latin inspired R&B song that evokes a very romantic and intimate emotion and I think King and Zaeden’s vocals really brought that out.”

In 2023, Kshmr released the Indian hip-hop album ‘Karam’. His stage name is a tribute to his roots in Kashmir.

Divulging into how he coined this name, he said: “I grew up being familiar with Indian music and movies because of my dad.

“But I wasn’t really interested in making music with Indian elements until later on in my life when appreciation for my heritage grew.

“That’s when I started Kshmr as a tribute to my dad and my grandparents who are from [Kashmir].”
