Rishi Sunak has become Prime Minister and his wife Akshata Murthy has been in the headlines, but what does the public know of her?

Sunak made history by becoming the first British-Indian Prime Minister.

Rishi Sunak has been married to Akshata Murthy since 2009. The couple have two daughters.

But who is she?

Akshata Murthy boasts a great fortune as her father is Indian billionaire NR Narayana Murthy.

As the co-founder of technology giant Infosys, he has a net worth of £3.9 billion.

Akshata holds a 0.93% stake in the company, giving her a net worth of £630 million.

She is no stranger to privilege from her family wealth, but the businesswoman has not allowed this to stop her from achieving highly for personal prospects.

The technology heiress has a vast education – from her undergraduate degree in Economics and French at Claremont McKenna College in California to a diploma in clothes manufacturing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Akshata also studied at Stanford University where she would meet Rishi Sunak.

She went on to found Akshata Designs in 2007.

This was followed by a joint business venture with her husband, called Catamaran Ventures.

All shares were transferred to Akshata when Mr Sunak became the Conservative MP for Richmond in 2015.

Akshata also has numerous shareholder and director positions across the UK and other countries.

She hit headlines in April 2022 when it was revealed that Akshata possessed non-domicile tax status, which entitled her to pay no tax on her income outside Britain.

It was reported that she avoided paying approximately £11.5 million in taxes.

She has since stated that she would pay UK tax on her worldwide income voluntarily.

Over the years, the couple has amassed a large real estate portfolio.

This includes a luxurious Georgian manor on the outskirts of North Yorkshire, properties across the United States, and various properties in London.

The couple’s wealth has been a talking point for the media and politicians in Britain.

The pair made it to the Sunday Times Rich List in May 2022.

Holding a joint fortune of £730 million, the couple are the 222nd richest people in Britain. Mr Sunak also became the first politician to join the Sunday Times Rich List.
