On January 16, 2025, Bollywood and worldwide fans were shaking when Saif Ali Khan became the victim of a horrific attack in his home.
The actor was stabbed six times by an intruder who tried to burgle his Mumbai home.
The attacker reportedly began a confrontation with the maid and even slipped into the bedroom of Saif’s children.
After hearing the altercation with the maid, Saif allegedly helped his family down the stairs to exit the premises, before putting himself between the intruder and his family.
This resulted in Saif Ali Khan being stabbed several times, including being attacked in his neck.
The star was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. It was later reported that he had recovered from surgery and was no longer in danger.
On January 19, 2025, a suspect, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested regarding the incident.
Following the suspect’s arrest, Senior Police Official Dixit Gedam said: “An investigation has revealed that he went to Saif’s house with the intention of theft.
“It seems the accused is a Bangladeshi. He does not have any Indian documents.
“Some things have been recovered from him which show that he is a Bangladeshi.”
Dixit Gedam added that the suspect had been living in Mumbai for four months and had changed his name to Bijoy Das.
According to Gedam, the suspect also had a history of working at a housekeeping company.
Previously, another suspect, Aakash Kailash Kannojia, was detained at Chattisgarh’s Durg railway station.
Officials had said: “When the train reached Durg, the suspect – who was sitting in the general compartment – de-boarded and was immediately taken into custody.
“He is being interrogated.
“The Mumbai Police had sent the suspect’s photo, train number and location to the RPF, after which he was caught.”
After Shehzad’s arrest, Kannojia was released.
The intruder allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore when they descended upon Saif’s home.
Meanwhile, the industry has come out in support of Saif Ali Khan following his hospital admission.
He has been visited by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt.
His immediate family including mother Sharmila Tagore and sister Soha Ali Khan also visited Saif.
His wife Kareena Kapoor Khan said in a statement that the attacker was very aggressive but did not touch any open jewellery in the house.
