Trevor also discussed the Red Fort incident
Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, has given a detailed explanation about the Farmers’ Protest in a bid to provide viewers with an understanding as to why the protests were going on.
After the likes of singer Rihanna and activist Greta Thunberg tweeted their support for the farmers, many people have wondered why the protests were taking place.
Trevor Noah has now covered the issue.
In a segment titled ‘If You Don’t Know, Now You Know’, Trevor tries to explain the ongoing protests happening in and around Delhi.
During the eight-minute video, Trevor discusses that farmers are protesting against three agricultural farm laws that they say will threaten their livelihoods.
He also takes various news clips, including the Vox video which went viral in the past.
It had addressed the farmers’ concerns that they will lose concessions with the push for privatisation.
Trevor also discussed the Red Fort incident where thousands of farmers breached police barricades following a tractor rally.
Police were in agreement with the rally taking place and Indian farmers were given specific routes to take so they did not interrupt the Republic Day parade, which took place in central Delhi.
However, a number of protesters stormed the Red Fort complex by breaching security.
Protestors climbed the walls and domes of the Fort and hoisted their own flags alongside the national flag.
Farmers deviating from the pre-agreed routes caused clashes with police, and the protest quickly turned violent.
Police made use of their batons and tear gas in an attempt to alleviate the chaos.
Dozens of Indian farmers and police were left injured, and one protester was killed after his tractor overturned as tear gas was set off by police.
In the video, Trevor Noah points out that Indian farming employs double the number of the United States’ entire population, giving an idea of how big farming is in India.
He went on to say that the farmers are unlikely to stop with the protests because “Nobody on earth is more patient than the farmer”.
The video has received more than 900,000 views.
Why are India’s farmers protesting? The government tried to change the decades-old agriculture laws and that’s when the manure hit the fan.

The Farmers’ Protest received global attention after Rihanna tweeted:
“Why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest.”
This prompted a wave of support from international personalities.
However, it was not well-received by the Indian Government, who said that they were interfering.
The Ministry of External Affairs had said in a statement:
“Before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken.
“The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible.”
Bollywood celebrities like Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar voiced their support for the MEA.
