‘The Donkey King’ makes History on Pakistani Television

The hit film The Donkey King on Geo Entertainment has broken all viewership records on Pakistan television after its premiere made history.

As a result of the coronavirus lockdown in Pakistan, cinemas were closed during the festival of Eid.

This change led Geo Entertainment to bring the cinema experience to the comfort of everyone’s home by releasing the film on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

According to Kantar Media Pakistan’s TV rating data collection, The Donkey King garnered the highest-ever rating (GRPs).

This rating accounted for cable and satellite audiences of all genders and ages.

Before the release of this film, Teefa in Trouble (2018) was known to be the highest-rated TV premiere ever.

However, The Donkey King took the title with a tremendous 36.8 million impressions.

Asad Qureshi, COO, Geo Entertainment commenting on the amazing success of The Donkey King. He said:

“Geo laid the foundation for the revival of Pakistani cinema by producing Khuda Kay Liye (2007) in the past. Now it continues to be the favourite platform for the biggest and best of Pakistani blockbusters.

“The Donkey King on Geo Entertainment proved to be the most successful TV premiere ever and we would like to thank our audience for the overwhelming response and appreciation.”

The creator of the film, Aziz Jindani also spoke about the staggering success of the TV premiere of The Donkey King. He expressed:

“We always promised that The Donkey King is a film for all ages and the record viewership number of its premiere reaffirms that fact.

“In particular, it is most gratifying to note that during the film’s premiere, almost every second child in Pakistan who was watching TV at that time was glued to Geo Entertainment, which is not a kids’ channel per se.

“This presents a compelling case for producing more animated content for TV in future. Stay tuned!”

Interestingly, Geo Entertainment holds the maximum number of high profile films being premiered on its channel.

There is no doubt Geo Entertainment is one of the best go-to channels to visit in Pakistan for great blockbuster premieres.

The animated comedy film which was produced by Geo Films and Talisman Studios was initially released in October 2018.

Featuring the voices of Jan Rambo, Ismail Tara, Hina Dilpazeer, Ghulam Mohiuddin and Jawed Sheikh The Donkey King is a treat to watch.
