"Eve Unwin, I love you."

In BBC’s EastEnders, diversity and inclusivity thrive among the show’s storylines.

Within the South Asian community, LGBTQ+ representations have never been under the spotlight as much as they are now.

The LGBTQ+ community is essential in the realm of media and television.

In the latest episode of EastEnders, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) finally got engaged.

The episode was uploaded to BBC iPlayer on August 8, 2024, at 6 am.

On August 7, viewers saw Eve propose to Suki in the Queen Vic.

This was after Suki’s ex-husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) planted doubts over Suki’s loyalty in Eve’s mind.

Recent EastEnders episodes showed Suki reconnecting with Ayesha (Laila Rouass) – an old friend.

It emerged that Ayesha and Suki previously had feelings for each other. Disturbed by this, Eve asked Suki to marry her.

Unsure, Suki quickly exited, which led to Eve vanishing from the Square.

In the latest instalment of EastEnders, Eve returned and had a discussion with Suki over the events of the previous day.

Suki explained: “I love you and I want you. I have never felt happier.”

Eve questioned: “You just don’t want to marry me?”

Suki sighed and said: “When I think of marriage, I think of Nish and our marriage.”

In response, Eve reasoned: “It wouldn’t be like that. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you. I want to love you and protect you.”

Suki replied: “Protect me? That’s what Nish said and he called it ‘love’.”

Shocked, Eve stormed out. Suki and Ayesha then had a conversation in the gardens, where Ayesha encouraged her friend to take a second chance.

Suki said: “I suppose you think I should run a mile.”

Ayesha replied: “If you did, you would be making the biggest mistake of your life.”

Suki then admitted: “I had no idea what real love was until I met [Eve].”

Ayesha said: “Don’t you think you owe it to yourself to find out how good it could be?

“Not everyone has a second chance to do it properly.”

In later scenes, Suki met Eve in the Vic and said: “Eve Unwin, I love you and I’d walk through fire for you.

“And if I were to live my life again, I’d find you sooner.

“So will you do me the greatest honour of my life and be my wife?”

Eve readily accepted and the pub burst into applause while a seething Nish stormed out.

Since Suki and Eve’s romance began, they have become one of the most popular couples in EastEnders.

Fans also started branding them, ‘Sukeve’.

Their relationship became one of the show’s most memorable South Asian storylines.

Elsewhere in EastEnders, Suki has also been a part of ‘The Six’ story.

This storyline saw Suki cover up the murder of Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) along with five other women in the show.

EastEnders continues on Monday, August 12, 2024.
