Suhana Khan has called for the end of colourism, sharing her own experiences of being trolled for her appearance.
The 20-year-old daughter of Shahrukh and Gauri Khan revealed that she has been called ugly because of her skin tone.
She shared some of the nasty comments but gave a befitting reply to the trolls while calling for colourism to be ended.
Suhana took to Instagram and revealed that her appearance has been negatively commented on since she was 12.
She also shared a few comments from people who have said that she is too dark to be considered beautiful.
One person said: “She’s really ugly as well as dark.”
Another called Suhana a “kaali chudail” or black witch.
A third person referred to Suhana as a black cat.
On social media, Suhana pointed out that the trolls were “full-grown men and women”. She also said that they were Indian, meaning that many were criticising her skin tone despite also having brown skin.
In her Instagram post, Suhana wrote:
“There’s a lot going on right now and this is one of the issues we need to fix!! this isn’t just about me, it’s about every young girl/boy who has grown up feeling inferior for absolutely no reason.
“Here are just a few of the comments made about my appearance.
“I’ve been told I’m ugly because of my skin tone, by full-grown men and women, since I was 12 years old.
“Other than the fact that these are actual adults, what’s sad is that we are all Indian, which automatically makes us brown – yes we come in different shades but no matter how much you try to distance yourself from the melanin, you just can’t.
“Hating on your own people just means that you are painfully insecure.”
“I’m sorry if social media, Indian matchmaking or even your own families have convinced you, that if you’re not 5′ 7 and fair you’re not beautiful.
“I hope it helps to know that I’m 5′ 3 and brown and I am extremely happy about it and you should be too.”

Suhana’s post was praised by her social media followers for speaking out on the issue and drawing on her own experiences.
Suhana Khan is currently studying with the intention of getting into acting. She studies film at Ardingly College in England and is currently a student at New York University.
She also featured in a short film called The Grey Part of Blue, which was directed by Theodore Gimeno.
There are rumours that Suhana will eventually enter Bollywood, however, it has yet to come to fruition.
