Spring/Summer 2013 Trends for Women

After those endless bitter months of winter, spring is finally upon us. The sun is officially out. It’s time to put those scarves and jumpers away and splash out on a new, chic, glamorous wardrobe. DESIblitz have put together some of the big trends for Spring/Summer 2013.

"It is all about big personality and in-your-face style."

Whatever your style, this year’s trends are sure to complement your wardrobe. It’s all about big prints and bold colours. You can choose from a fusion of over decoration and 3D embellishment versus white and monochrome simplicity.

The future is now. Contemporary designs, cuts and shapes are what to look out for this year. Squares, stripes and optical illusions all make an appearance. Even the Oriental heritage designs of Japan are updated with a modern twist. We’ve listed some of the biggest Fashion trends to watch out for this Spring/Summer 2013.

Stripes & Zig-Zags

StrippedAhoy, sailor! Stripes and nautical themes only look best in the middle of the summer in the sun. This year features striped dresses and skirts and zigzagged tops and blouses.

By stripes, we don’t just mean the straight ones – curved lines and optical illusions are big in Marc Jacobs spring and summer collection. Their hypnotising patterns will most literally have you hooked.

If full head-to-toe stripes is too much of a stretch for you, you can also tone down the look with a statement leather jacket or casual boyfriend jeans. Moschino bangles and a Dolce & Gabbana are a perfect understatement.

Look for wide and elongated stripe patterns. Remember, stripes can be hugely slimming if you know how to wear them.

Goth Chic

Black dressGoths are in, yet again. Black is the new black and is big for summer. The monochrome look is very in right now, so team black with brilliant whites.

Aim to go for relaxing and soothing cuts of fabric. Light, billowy and flowy dresses and skirts are perfect in the summer heat. Ruffles and embellishments can add an elegant and sophisticated touch to both daywear and evening wear.

Dresses with low cuts and bare shoulders are a perfect summer outfit. Time to get out your favourite little back dress.

Marc Jacobs’ new collection of black trench coats  are a great look for the rainy weather we are bound to get.

Checks & Squares

Louis Vuiton CollectionFor once, being on the chess team doesn’t look so bad. Geek chic returns with bold chequer-board prints and squares. Look to Chanel, Marni and Louis Vuitton for a bold and sophisticated look.

These geometric designs add a new dimension to your clothing, and you are sure to stay ahead of the crowd with this bold look. Of course, you can add subtle hints of squares and check patterns with a Fendi statement bag.

The Louis Vuitton collection dazzled with sharp tailoring in oversized check prints, in black and white prints, gold and white and bronze metallics. Monochrome works perfectly with this style, adding a contemporary feel.

Futuristic Sheen

Futuristic sheenFuturistic foils and metallic sheens are another huge fashion statement for spring and summer.

Vogue Fashion editor, Francesca Burns says: “The sheen that features heavily in the spring/summer 13 collections has magical qualities. When hit by light, one colour becomes many, while the gauzy fabrics float about the body like a mystical glow. Take note of Raf Simons at Dior and go for a sculpted iridescent top over micro shorts.”

Alexander Wang, Louise Gray and Mulberry have all crafted sheen designs perfectly. The Burberry collection also looks amazing with some great colour combinations.

Try grey shiny skinny jeans with tanned court shoes for a great summer look. Team with a white blouse or shirt.

Dolce & Gabanna FloralNothing says spring or summer like a pretty floral dress. Flower power is definitely back in this year with the 60’s reigning supreme.

In particular, 3D flower embellishments were also a big hit on the catwalk. The 3D look adds another textured detail to your floral design. Paired with a classic beehive hair style and retro sunglasses, you can go flower power crazy.

Look to Moschino and floral experts Erdem for cute and wacky dresses to suit every occasion.

The Dolce & Gabbana collection mixes big floral prints with Asian faces and masks to give a bold, personalised look.

Topshop OrientalThe West meets the Far East with this new collection of contemporary oriental and Japanese prints. The intricacy and detail of Japanese embroidery really is second to none. And with Japan excelling in all other areas of commerce and technology, its fusion of post-modern fashion and chic styling is no different.

This year’s Oriental collections saw exactly that, with tailored oriental inspired trouser suits and straight cuts. Shirt dresses and streamlined dresses combined the sophistication of work wear with the delicate hand of Japanese design.

In particular, look out for Stella McCartney’s kimono suits. This Topshop bodycon figure-hugging dress is gorgeous and is a steal at £38.

WhiteA white summer dress can be the perfect accessory to lazy days in the park or lunch with your girlfriends. Team a flowy white dress with bursts of colour like chunky bangles or a bright handbag. Wedges will complete your summer look.

Look for layered whites that have lace cut-outs or intricate embroidery. The finer details are sure to give you a sophisticated and elegant edge. Valentino and Simone Rocha have beautiful cutesy collections of embellished dresses.

For a more streamlined look, Prada and Celine feature a number of elegant straight-cut dresses and tailored wear.

2013 is a big year for fashion, with the leniency to experiment towards bolder patterns and futuristic designs. It is all about big personality and in-your-face style. Look out for these big fashion trends this summer and find something that screams you. Make sure you spend your spring and summer in style.
