Shobna Gulati is one of the most popular faces on British television.
Her popularity with viewers soared when she portrayed Sunita Alahan in ITV’s Coronation Street.
In exciting news, Shobna Gulati will take part in the Christmas edition of The Great British Bake Off in 2024.
In a first for the festive specials, the Christmas edition of Channel 4’s baking contest will be formed out of soap stars.
The special will be judged by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood and presented by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.
Along with Shobna Gulati, the celebrity bakers will comprise Natalie Cassidy (Sonia Fowler) and Dean Gaffney (Robbie Jackson) from EastEnders.
The Coronation Street and Emmerdale actor Chris Bisson will also appear in the show.
They will be joined by Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Sheree Murphy.
Sharing the news on her Instagram Story, Shobna Gulati wrote:
“Bake Off is what you have been waiting for.
“The Great Christmas Bake Off is guaranteed to bring you tidings of comfort and joy coming to your Christmas calendar.”
The festive episode will see Shobna and her fellow soap stars battle it out in the tent to win Festive Star Baker.
They will face three Christmas-themed challenges. The signature bake will involve the bakers putting their own spin on the traditional yule log.
Following this, the technical challenge will require them to utilise their knowledge of meringues to create delicate Christmas trees.
Finally, a dramatic showstopper will see them them presenting one of their favourite soap storylines in the form of a biscuit.
The line-up for The Great New Year Bake Off in 2025 has also been confirmed, with several former contestants returning to the tent.
Viewers are currently enjoying the current series of The Great British Bake Off.
The latest episode – broadcast on November 12, 2024 – saw Illiyin Morrison depart the competition.
The show will return to Channel 4 for its semifinal on November 19, 2024.
Meanwhile, Shobna Gulati joined Coronation Street as Sunita in 2001. She was axed from the soap in 2006, and rejoined the show in 2009.
She went onto play Sunita for four years until she decided to quit the role again in 2013.
At the time, Shobna commented: “I have loved playing Sunita but, having played the role originally from 2001 to 2006 and then returning to Corrie four years ago, I really feel the time has come for me to focus on other aspects of my career.”
The Great Christmas Bake Off will air on Channel 4 over the Christmas period of 2024.
