“I am a proud law-abiding Indian"
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has released a public statement regarding the arrest of her husband Raj Kundra.
Kundra was arrested on July 19, 2021, for his alleged involvement in a pornography racket.
Shetty has claimed that she is not involved in the pornography-related case. However, she and her family are facing major backlash for her husband’s arrest.
Now, she has taken to Instagram to release a statement on the matter.
Shilpa Shetty’s statement, released on Monday, August 2, 2021, says that she will not be commenting on the allegations against her and Raj Kundra.
She also urges the media and the public to stop circulating rumours and “unwarranted aspersions”, and to let the justice system take its course.
Shilpa Shetty’s statement read:
“Yes! The past few days have been challenging, on every front. There have been a lot of rumours and accusations.
“A lot of unwarranted aspersions on me cast by the media and (not so) well-wishers as well.
“A lot of trolling/questions posed… not only to me but also to my family.
“MY STAND… I HAVE NOT COMMENTED YET and will continue to refrain from doing so on this case as it is subjudice, so please stop attributing false quotes on my behalf.
“Reiterating my philosophy of, as a celebrity ‘Never complain, never explain’.
“All I will say is, as it’s an ongoing investigation, I have full faith in the Mumbai Police & the Indian judiciary.
“As a family, we are taking recourse to all our available legal remedies.”
Shilpa Shetty then went on to request privacy for her family, and for the media to allow the law to decide the outcome.
She continued:
“But, till then I humbly request you – especially as a MOTHER – to respect our privacy for my children’s sake and request you to refrain from commenting on half-baked information without verifying the veracity of the same.
“I am a proud law-abiding Indian citizen and a hardworking professional for the last 29 years.
“People have put their faith in ME and I’ve never let anyone down.
“So, most importantly, I request you to respect my family’s and ‘my right’ to privacy in these times.
“We don’t deserve a media trial. Please let the law take its course.”
“Satyamev Jayate!
“With Positivity and Gratitude, Shilpa Shetty Kundra.”
Shilpa Shetty’s statement is her first public statement on the pornography case against her husband.
Previously, Crime Branch officials took a statement from Shetty during a raid on the house she shares with Kundra.
The raid took place on July 23, 2021.
According to reports, Shilpa Shetty denied being involved in the production and distribution of pornographic videos on mobile apps.
She also referred to the adult content as “erotica”, not pornography.
