Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has criticised Bollywood celebrities for not showing their support for Shah Rukh Khan during his “moment of crisis”.

SRK is going through a difficult time after his son Aryan Khan was arrested in a drug-related case.

Since then, some Bollywood celebrities like Hrithik Roshan, Hansal Mehta and Pooja Bhatt have shown their support for Shah Rukh and his family.

However, many major personalities have stayed silent on the matter, something Sanjay Gupta has openly expressed his anger at.

He took to Twitter and wrote: “Shah Rukh Khan has and continues to give jobs and livelihoods to thousands in the film industry.

“He has always stood up for every cause for the film industry.

“And the astute silence of the same film industry in his moment of crisis is nothing short of SHAMEFUL.”

The Shootout at Wadala director added:

“Today it is his son, tomorrow it will be mine or yours… will you still maintain this cowardly silence???”

On October 21, 2021, Shah Rukh was spotted at Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail where Aryan is being held.

Some celebrities condemned the media attention that followed the visit.

Filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava had commented on a video of SRK being surrounded by reporters, writing:

“My heart is broken for SRK. May there be light at the end of the tunnel.”

Pooja Bhatt tweeted: “Dear members of the press.

“I know times are tougher than ever and there is immense pressure on you’ll from your respective employers to grab a byte even if it means compromising your own health and safety but how do you’ll explain this pack like behaviour to your own children? Tragic.”

Hansal Mehta said that Bollywood has become a “punching bag” and wrote:

“Bollywood is not a place, not a company and definitely not some mafia.”

“It is a loosely coined term for a large number of individuals who work really hard to create, to entertain, to engage and unlike many other professions are always vulnerable to criticism, scrutiny and abuse.”

Aryan Khan and several others were arrested following a raid on a cruise ship.

The case has since seen Ananya Panday summoned by the NCB for questioning in relation to the case.

She had been requested to appear for further questioning on October 25, 2021, however, she sought a later date after stating that she is unwell.

The NCB claimed that they found message exchanges between Aryan and Ananya that were drug-related.

It was reported that she was asked to provide context about the chats.

Aryan’s fourth bail plea will be heard on October 26, 2021.
