Saboor Aly expressed her disappointment in the drama serial Mannat Murad for copying her wedding dress.
The actress took to Instagram and stated that she was not pleased with an episode where Mannat (Iqra Aziz) wore a lehenga that resembled her own wedding gown.
Sharing a photograph of herself from her wedding next to a screenshot of Iqra from the drama, Saboor wrote:
“And how am I supposed to feel about this?
“My moment, my memories, my sentiments, my vision and my look for the most special day of my life.
“My heart was put into every little detail of my entire look. However, there is a difference between being inspired and copying special day blatantly.”
The post was met with mixed reactions from fans.
One individual wrote: “It’s not even close to Saboor’s dream wedding! I can’t believe they did something without even asking her. Cheap ways of promotion.”
However, another said: “Where is it written that nobody else can ever wear the same outfit?
“It is a designer dress, anyone can wear it.
“Please grow up Saboor, stop seeking unnecessary attention.”
Designer Faiza Saqlain, who created the dress, released a statement which implied that the matter had been blown out of proportion and that as the designer, she had all the rights.
She said: “So there is a lot of noise regarding a bridal outfit that we made, and I just feel that this needs some clarity.
“I understand the sentiments that a bride might have with her bridal dress, but suggesting colours and some minor details does not give copyrights of the design to the bride.
“All brides customise, make changes or come with suggestions for a completely newer look.
“Neither the silhouette nor the work is something I haven’t done before, neither is it something that we came up with for the first time for that particular event.
“It is a very classic silhouette worn by many brides even before this particular design was designed.”
“I feel there was not any need for this uproar, especially when designers do a favour and take time out to design time-consuming looks, in return for neither money nor collaborative benefits.
“This particular outfit is completely an FS bridal and we have all the rights to sell it and/or give it for further collaborations.”
The dress consisted of a light gold shirt paired with a traditional gharara accentuated with a green and red border.
The outfit was complete with a matching dupatta.
In Mannat Murad‘s wedding episode, Iqra wore a similar outfit, accompanied by similar make-up and jewellery.
Neither Iqra nor the Mannat Murad makers have responded to Saboor Aly’s outburst.
