Not everyone in the industry has welcomed the idea.
Saba Qamar is reportedly set to play Anmol, widely known as Pinky and labelled Pakistan’s “cocaine queen,” in a new television biopic.
The project is currently in development and is already generating enormous buzz across Pakistani social media and entertainment circles.
It is being written by prominent journalist and television host Shahzaib Khanzada.
Saba herself amplified the speculation by resharing a post about the casting news on her Instagram story, sending fans into full excitement mode.
Anmol “Pinky” first made national headlines after her arrest in Karachi on May 12, 2026, during a police raid in the Garden area of the city.
The case quickly snowballed into one of the most widely discussed and followed drug investigations to emerge in Pakistan.
Police and investigators claim she was linked to a wider narcotics network operating across multiple cities throughout the country.
The network allegedly used riders and associates instead of formal staff to move operations as discreetly as possible across different regions.
According to South DIG Syed Asad Raza, the operation is believed to have supplied cocaine to clients across several different parts of the country.
Investigators described it as a structured and actively expanding operation, giving the case a scale that captured widespread public imagination and attention.
Authorities also allege that Anmol had moved between Karachi and Lahore at a young age while pursuing ambitions in modelling and the media industry.
Investigators claim that multiple connections were uncovered during the probe, including links to a retired police officer within the network.
Alleged assets and properties acquired during the relevant period were also flagged by authorities as part of the ongoing and widening investigation.
Law enforcement agencies, including the FIA, ANF and NCCIA, are now all involved in the broader inquiry into the network and its operations.
Several criminal cases had been registered against Anmol over the years before her high-profile arrest.
Financial assets have reportedly been frozen as the investigation continues to expand in scope and involve multiple agencies across the country.
With Saba Qamar now attached to the lead role, the project is shaping up to be one of the most controversial Pakistani dramas in recent memory.
However, not everyone in the industry has welcomed the idea of bringing this particular story to a prime-time television audience in Pakistan.
Actor and filmmaker Shamoon Abbasi has publicly questioned the wisdom and ethics of producing and airing such a project on mainstream television.
He asked why such an idea was even being entertained when countless other women-centric stories existed that could genuinely motivate and inspire audiences.
Abbasi did acknowledge, however, that Saba Qamar’s talent was beyond question and that her performance would likely be extraordinary in the role.
He said it was guaranteed that she would perform so well that people would fall in love, recognising her capabilities even while opposing the project itself.
Shamoon Abbasi then questioned why an actress capable of producing such impactful work was now being directed towards portraying a deeply negative character.
