"I never thought she could do this to me."
Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra shockingly revealed that he divorced his first wife Kavita after she had an affair with his sister’s husband.
He made the revelation after an old interview of Kavita went viral.
In the interview, she blamed Shilpa for ruining the marriage.
Now, Reena has reacted to Kavita’s affair, admitting that Kavita broke her trust.
She said: “I treated Kavita as my older sister. I loved and trusted her. She and I were very close.
“I never thought she could do this to me. It was heartbreaking.”
Raj had said that Kavita grew close to his brother-in-law Vansh whilst living in London.
He said: “She always brought out the worst in me and I think that’s evident from my past pictures and present.
“My family meant the world to me always but she would always fight and argue with everyone in my family and for her, it was always about her side of the family.
“We were living in one house with my mum, dad and my sister and her husband had moved over from India to try and settle in the UK.
“She grew very close to my ex-brother in law spending more and more time with him especially when I was out on business trips.
“Many of my family and even my driver would say we sense something fishy between these two and I would never believe it.
“I gave my ex-wife the benefit of doubt.
“I did everything I possibly could for both sides of the family because for me my side or her family is family, a principle I still follow today.”
Raj had said that Reena and Vansh later moved to India, however, Kavita was still speaking to him.
Raj Kundra said he discovered a second phone that she hid in the bathrooms and found their message exchanges.
He recalled:
“I recall how heartbroken I was and how I cried and cried thinking about what I had done to deserve this.”
“I called and told my pregnant sister the phone number was Kavita’s second secret phone and that I was going to drop her at her house and that was the end for me she could decide what she wanted to do.”
He separated from Kavita. At the time, their daughter was just 40 days old.
Raj married Shilpa Shetty in 2009 following his divorce from Kavita.
After he revealed Kavita’s affair, he said that it left Shilpa upset. But he admitted that telling his side of the story took a weight off his shoulders.
