"I never said anything to that filmmaker. I was so scared."
Priyanka Chopra revealed that during her early days in Bollywood, a director asked her to “strip down to her underwear” on a film set.
The actress opened up on the incident during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Although the encounter was many years ago, Priyanka revealed she regrets not standing up to him because she was scared at the time.
Priyanka explained that the filmmaker asked her to perform “a sultry dance and strip down to her underwear” on the set of the film.
The incident made her feel uncomfortable but the next day, she quit the film.
On where she found the strength to take action, Priyanka said:
“I have to say that comes from my upbringing. My parents always gave me that.
“My mom told me when I was nine years old, ‘Whatever you do in your life, you will be financially independent’.
“I was told to have an opinion in a room that disagreed with me. I was always encouraged to have a voice.”
Priyanka went on to reveal that she regrets not saying anything to the filmmaker.
“My regret with that incident is that I never said anything to that filmmaker. I was so scared.
“I was new in the entertainment business and girls are always told that ‘you don’t want to get a reputation of being hard to work with’.
“So, I worked within the system.
“And that’s my regret is that I never stood up to him and said, ‘What you did was wrong’ because I was scared but the only way, I knew how to deal with it was just to step away from it and have grace under fire. And that’s what I did.”
During her interview with Oprah, Priyanka Chopra also opened up about facing racist bullying and her initial thoughts on her now-husband Nick Jonas.
The actress admitted that she did not take him seriously at first.
She revealed: “I did really judge the book by its cover.
“I honestly didn’t take it very seriously when Nick was texting me.”
“I was 35 and I want to get married and I want to have kids. He is in his 20s… I don’t know if that’s something he would want to do.
“I did that to myself for a while till I actually went out with him.
“Nothing surprised me more than you know him.
“He’s such a self-assured man, so sensible, so excited about my achievements, my dreams… you know.
“Such a true partnership he offers me everything that we do together, that I truly believe that my mom manifested him.”
