The post-mortem report of seven-year-old Sarim, whose body was found in a water tank in North Karachi, has confirmed rape and murder.

SSP Anil Haider of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) revealed that Sarim was kidnapped, raped, tortured, and ultimately murdered.

According to the medical report, the youngster was strangled and his neck was broken, with multiple injury marks evident on his body.

Haider stated that the child was killed approximately five days before his body was discovered on January 18, 2025.

This indicated that he was likely kept alive for some time after his abduction.

Sarim went missing on January 7 after he left home to study at a madrassa near his apartment.

Following the grim discovery of his body, authorities launched a comprehensive investigation.

The investigation into the case has been reassigned to the district police, following its initial handling by the AVCC.

DIG West Irfan Ali has since established a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure the case is thoroughly examined.

DSP Fareed Ahmad has been appointed to lead the SIT.

SSP AVCC Anil Haider clarified that the cell primarily focuses on cases involving kidnapping for ransom.

Since no evidence of ransom demands linked to Sarim’s case has been found, the investigation was transferred.

He emphasised that this move will not impede the case’s progress.

A fraudster who contacted Sarim’s family pretending to be the kidnapper is under probe.

This number has reportedly been linked to other similar scams.

Meanwhile, five suspects are currently in police custody for their suspected involvement in the rape and murder.

DNA samples from these individuals have been sent to Karachi University’s forensic lab for analysis.

Investigation teams have also revisited the crime scene to collect additional evidence and have consulted doctors involved in the initial autopsy.

Their opinions are being sought to better understand the case’s complexities.

Investigators have recorded statements from various individuals connected to the incident, aiming to piece together a clearer narrative of the crime.

The final post-mortem report, anticipated after the completion of the chemical analysis, is expected to provide critical insights.

Sarim’s grieving parents, however, remain distraught and dissatisfied with the authorities.

They stated that had the police taken action sooner, Sarim’s death could have been prevented.

The couple demanded accountability for what they described as “mishandling and negligence” by both the authorities and the management.

They said:  “You didn’t give us our child; at least give us justice.”
