A Pakistani mother and two of her daughters drowned in a water tank in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide case.

The tragic incident unfolded at a house in Landhi, Karachi.

The three individuals found in the water tank were identified as 35-year-old Sheila, and her two young daughters Yusra and Roohab.

Sheila’s husband operates a scrap business and was away at the time.

Reports from relatives indicated that mother-of-three Sheila had been battling mental health issues.

Local residents and neighbours, familiar with Sheila’s struggles, confirmed her history of mental health issues.

They also said there had been previous incidents involving her children.

According to police, the Pakistani mother pushed her three daughters into a water tank and then jumped in herself.

The police have gathered evidence from the scene and have launched an investigation.

The drowned children were retrieved from the tank by a polio vaccination team that was present in the area.

Reportedly, one of the daughters managed to escape the tank before her mother jumped in.

After pushing the children into the tank, the mother reportedly tried to rescue them.

It is believed that the tragic deaths of all three occurred during this rescue attempt.

The surviving daughter knocked on the door from inside the house, leading the polio team to respond and provide assistance.

A neighbour reported that he was informed of the incident by his cousin over the phone.

Attempts to contact the husband Ali Rehman were unsuccessful as his number was switched off.

When the neighbour arrived at the scene, the bodies of the mother and her two daughters had already been recovered.

The surviving daughter recounted that her mother had called them to the water tank under the pretence of showing them fish.

According to the daughter, after pushing them into the tank, the mother also jumped in herself.

Instances of lives being lost due to mental health issues are not uncommon.

In July 2024, an incident unfolded in Abbottabad where a mother slit the throats of her three children.

Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the suspect, reportedly grappling with mental health challenges, used a sharp object to attack her own children.

Tragically, the youngest of the three, an eight-month-old infant, lost their life at the scene, while the other two children sustained severe injuries.

Fortunately, timely medical attention was provided to the injured children.
