“Fayyaz Solangi had pretended to be abducted"

A journalist from Sindh’s Khairpur district, Fayyaz Solangi, staged his own kidnapping in a shocking turn of events.

Solangi, who worked for KTN News and Daily Kawish, claimed he was abducted and his kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 million.

The video was posted on his Facebook account.

It showed Solangi shirtless, chained, and pleading for help while a gun was pointed at him.

The video caused shock among journalists and led to protests in multiple towns, including Hingorja, Khairpur, and Nawabshah.

Journalists pointed out the lack of safety in Sindh and criticised police inaction.

Demonstrators threatened to block the National Highway if Solangi was not rescued within 24 hours.

The video drew attention to the challenges faced by reporters in the region, with many citing harassment, killings, and kidnappings as ongoing threats.

Protests across towns called on the Sindh government to provide better protection for journalists.

Amid mounting pressure, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed police to recover Solangi and submit a detailed report.

Following the chief minister’s orders, police traced Solangi’s mobile to Kashmore and launched an operation.

Solangi was recovered, but further investigations revealed that he had fabricated the entire kidnapping.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khairpur Tawheed Memon, Solangi orchestrated the act to frame his cousins over a land dispute.

He said: “Fayyaz Solangi had pretended to be abducted to make a false case against his cousins, with whom he had a land dispute.

“The journalist had concocted a drama to make a false case against his cousins.”

His uncle, Mazhar Solangi, was also arrested for being a ‘main character’ in the staged abduction.

The revelation prompted swift consequences. Solangi’s employer, KTN News, terminated his employment.

KTN News released a statement confirming the dismissal and severing all ties with him.

The organisation expressed disappointment over his actions, which undermined journalistic ethics and public trust.

Solangi’s actions have been widely condemned, with many demanding that he be arrested for wasting precious police time and resources.

A user said: “Only in Pakistan can such things happen.”

Another wrote: “All those protests and for what?”

One commented: “I hope he is punished for misleading everyone.”

Authorities are now investigating the full extent of Solangi’s scheme and any other accomplices involved.
