Nykaa Femina Beauty Awards 2018 as it Happened

The Nykaa Femina Beauty Awards 2018 took place on Thursday 15th February at the stunning JW Marriott hotel in Juhu, Mumbai. DESIblitz were there to cover the event live from the red carpet!

"I love using Dior Lip Glow, and Maybelline mascara is my favourite"

Stars like Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Arjun Kapoor graced the red carpet before they won big at the Nykaa Femina Beauty Awards on 15th February 2018.

The awards, which not only celebrate the most popular beauty products of the year, also recognise those popular Bollywood actors who have left a lasting mark with their style and beauty.

The stars that won our hearts the most on the red carpet was the award winner, Disha Patani in a golden one shoulder dress designed by Manish Malhotra.

Plus, Kiara Advani in a short lavender and pastel dress, which she described as “dramatic attire”.

Designed by Shubhika custom made for her, she said: “[The awards are] all about women power so I can wear what I feel like and I feel dramatic in this.”

Unsurprisingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the woman of the evening, taking home two honours including ‘Global Beauty Icon’ and the ‘Powerhouse Entertainer for 2 Decades’ award.

She looked stunning in a sparkling black gown by the Middle eastern label, Labourjoisie.

Ash was not the only Bachchan taking home an award that night as her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan also took home the ‘Style Legend of the Year’ award.

The eternally glamorous Rekha who won the award for ‘Legendary Style Diva’ showed off her traditional style in a metallic and gold sari.

The awards were hosted by Nykaa, a website for beauty products, and Femina magazine, one of the oldest and most prominent women’s beauty magazines in India.

Arjun Kapoor, who won the ‘Man of the Year’ award, explained his connection to Femina magazine:

“I think have grown up being part of Femina in some strange way because all the women in the house have always read Femina. One of my first covers was a Femina cover that I did actually, so I have had a very nice connect with Femina.”

Aditi Rao Hydari explained how she felt Femina is an ‘iconic magazine’ and the importance of the beauty awards in the industry:

“Femina is a magazine that is synonymous with being unstoppable, being empowered with women. And I think the concept of the Beauty Awards is amazing.

“I feel beauty is not just about your face and clothes. It’s actually about how you feel and how you appreciate other people as well. The more you appreciate people, the more beauty you get in your life.”

Dressed in a white feathered gown, Aditi glowed with not only beauty but from the success of her latest release, Padmavaat.

She revealed to DESIblitz: “It was amazing because it’s been a childhood dream of mine to work with Sanjay sir. I read the script, he told me that it would be very special. I didn’t ask him any questions, I went in there with complete love, and I followed exactly what Sanjay said.

“There was an amazing team who made me look like that, and there was Sanjay sir who made me act like that. Mehrunisa is a very special, very pure and very lovely character so I feel very lucky to have been picked to play her.”

The Nyaa Femina Beauty Awards judged some of the top beauty products of the year. Some of the stars exclusively revealed to us their favourite beauty products.

Zarine Khan, said: “There are a few basics that I love using, like lip balm. I love using Dior Lip Glow, and Maybelline mascara is my favourite.”

Disha Patani told us that she loves using liquid tint on her cheeks, whilst an eyebrow pencil is a must for Surveen Chawla.

For some stars, their favourite beauty items included natural products, like milk and malai for Sangeeta Bijlani, or lots of water for Adah Sharma. For Malaika Arora and Kiara Advani, happiness was the secret to their beauty.

Whilst on the red carpet, many of the stars revealed to more about their upcoming projects.

Arjun Kapoor mentioned: “I have just finished [Dibakar Banerjee] sir’s film with Yash Raj Films. It’s with Parineeti [Chopra] and it is called Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar.

“I am doing one more film with Parineeti called Namastey England and it will go on floors from next week.”

When we asked Arjun what he likes the most about England, he told us that he loves the people!

Disha Patani is excited about the upcoming trailer release of her film Baaghi 2, co-starring Tiger Shroff. Speaking of the movie, she told press:

“I had to do a lot of hard work because he [Tiger Shroff] is very hardworking and to cope up with his energy levels is very hard. It was difficult, but we share a rapport together, and I managed it.”

Surveen Chawla

Surveen Chawla who sizzled in a red feathered dress also spoke about her upcoming Punjabi-inspired film, Sajjan Singh Rangroot, which stars Diljit Dosanjh:

“It’s a film that my very close friend Pankaj Batra has directed. And this is a path-breaking for Punjab. A movie of this scale is never before made in Punjab.

“Diljit Dosanjh is my favourite co-actor. I have done three films with him. I am expecting a lot from the film as it has taken an entire year to complete. And this concept of taking a year to make a film is also a first time for Punjab. So Rangroot is very special.”
