"Next steps will be taken based on the outcome.”
Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria was detained at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while attempting to leave the country.
Immigration Police intercepted her at the departure terminal before handing her over to officials from Bhatara Police Station.
She was later transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) headquarters on Minto Road for interrogation.
According to Inspector Sujan Haque of Bhatara Police Station, Faria was detained in connection with an ongoing case involving several high-profile figures.
Haque stated: “She will be shown arrested in the case registered with our station.”
The development has shocked the entertainment industry, where Faria is known for her performances in Shahenshah, Operation Sundarbans, and Bibaho Obhijaan.
Detective Branch officials confirmed that she is currently being questioned.
One DB officer revealed: “We are interrogating her. Next steps will be taken based on the outcome.”
He declined to comment on whether further arrests are expected.
Faria is one of 17 actors named in an attempted murder case filed on April 29, 2025, related to the 2024 student-led July uprising.
The case, which has now taken a dramatic turn, also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and over 260 others.
This includes prominent actors Apu Biswas, Nipun Akter, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Zayed Khan, Suborna Mustafa, Rokeya Prachy, and Meher Afroz Shaon.
Some of the other actors named in the case are Jyotika Jyoti, Sohana Saba, Symon Sadik, and Azizul Hakim.
The complaint was originally lodged in March 2025 with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.
The plaintiff, Enamul Haque, claimed he was injured during violent protests in Bhatara last year, where demonstrators clashed with law enforcement.
After recording the complainant’s statement, the court ordered Bhatara Police to register the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR).
It was officially filed on April 29.
While the legal implications are still unfolding, the case has stirred intense debate across the country.
Many in the cultural community are expressing disbelief that so many actors have been named in such a serious charge.
No official statement has yet been released by Nusraat Faria or her legal representatives.
A growing number of public figures are being drawn into legal trouble over the July uprising.
Questions are being raised about the broader implications for freedom of expression and civic activism in Bangladesh.
Further developments are expected in the coming days.
