Disturbing footage on social media appears to show two men being subjected to police brutality at Greater Manchester Airport.

The men, believed to be of South Asian heritage, had been detained at the airport.

On social media, netizens said the incident happened in Terminal Two.

Footage showed a young man dressed in blue on the floor being tasered by an officer.

The man seemed to be complying with the police, however, the officer then kicked him in the face before stomping on his head.

Those around the scene were heard shouting.

Meanwhile, an older woman – believed to be the man’s mother – was crouched over and trying to protect him.

At one point, the cameraman is sprayed with a substance by a female officer.

However, he is undeterred and he urges:

“Stop kicking people.”

The second man, who had been sitting on a bench in the airport, was then told to put his hands behind his head.

The officer shouts: “Get down!”

As he gets on his knees, he is kicked by the officer and handcuffed.

Two other officers rush to the first man and aggressively put their knees into his back.

One person who shared the video wrote:

“Can’t see how you can justify kicking someone in the face and head when they are laying on the floor being tasered and he seemed compliant.

“Some context is required as to what was going on here.”

Watch the Video. Warning – Distressing Images

Social media users shared the video and many were outraged by the display of violence demonstrated by the police.

Bushra Shaikh, who appeared on The Apprentice 2017, tweeted:

“What the hell am I watching?!

“Police brutality in full force as officer kicks and stamps on head at Manchester airport.

“Absolutely unnecessary force and unacceptable. This officer must face consequences @gmpolice
Does anyone know the family?”

Another person commented:

“This is disgusting and how can you kick someone in the head when they are lying on the floor?”

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) later said a female police officer sustained a broken nose as three officers were subject to a “violent assault”.

In a statement, the force said: “Officers were called to reports of an altercation between members of the public in Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport.

“Whilst attempting to arrest one of the suspects of the earlier altercation, three officers were subject to violent assault, where they were punched to the ground.

“A female officer suffered a broken nose and all three were taken to hospital for treatment.

“As the attending officers were firearms officers, there was a clear risk during this assault of their firearms being taken from them.

“Four men were arrested at the scene for affray and assault on emergency service workers.

“We acknowledge the concerns of the conduct within the video, and our Professional Standards Directorate are assessing this.”

A police officer has since been suspended.

A GMP statement read: “Following a thorough review of further information that has become available in relation to an incident at Manchester Airport on Tuesday evening, Greater Manchester Police has suspended a police officer from all duties.

“A referral has now been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for a full independent investigation.

“We understand the deep concerns that have been widely raised with us, and will continue to meet and discuss these feelings with Greater Manchester residents and elected representatives, whilst this independent investigation takes place.”

The shocking footage comes just days after a scathing report investigating Greater Manchester Police found that several women had been unlawfully arrested and strip-searched.

The review, commissioned by city mayor Andy Burnham, saw Dame Vera Baird interview 15 women and men who had complained about the way they had been treated by the force.
