“It’s an incredible honour to be nominated again."

Mohammed Ali Naqvi has earned his fourth Emmy Award nomination, further solidifying his status as a global voice in documentary storytelling.

His latest project, Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War, has been nominated in the Outstanding Historical Documentary category.

The docuseries, available on Netflix, investigates the Cold War’s origins and how its consequences shape today’s geopolitical tensions.

The nine-part documentary was directed by Brian Knappenberger and filmed across seven countries over two years.

It features interviews with global figures.

This includes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Norwegian politician Jens Stoltenberg, ex-US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and ex-CIA Director Robert Gates.

The series gained international traction, climbing to number three on the Netflix Original Series chart.

It amassed over 621 million streamed minutes in just its initial weeks.

Naqvi, who served as an executive producer on the project, shared his gratitude for the recognition.

He said: “It’s an incredible honour to be nominated again. To tell stories that travel across borders on the global stage is a privilege I don’t take lightly.”

This is not the first time Naqvi has made history.

In 2023, he became the first Pakistani filmmaker nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking category.

This was for his documentary The Accused: Damned or Devoted?

His journey of recognition began even earlier. In 2008, he received the prestigious Television Academy Honour for his Showtime documentary Shame.

This made him the first Pakistani to be acknowledged in that way.

Mohammed Ali Naqvi’s body of work consistently focuses on politically charged and socially relevant topics.

He uses documentary cinema to explore human rights, power structures, and overlooked communities.

His latest nomination marks not just personal success, but a broader acceptance of Pakistani narratives in international arenas.

Naqvi is also active in shaping the future of Pakistani cinema.

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and chairs the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee.

Additionally, he co-founded Crescent Collective, an initiative that recently helped establish Pakistan’s first formal presence at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2025, he was also selected as a Concordia Fellow by Concordia Studio, a program that supports filmmakers elevating unheard voices and bold storytelling.

With each new project, Mohammed Ali Naqvi is breaking records and pushing Pakistani cinema onto the world stage.
