"All lovers give their heart, but only I will give my life,"
An Indian man was allegedly told by his girlfriend’s dad to shoot himself in the head in order to prove his love for his daughter. The man complied with the request on 3rd July 2018 and has now been pronounced brain dead.
The incident took place at 9:30pm local time in the city of Bhopal. The 30-year-old Atul Lokhande who was the vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) headed to his girlfriend’s home.
It is claimed that this is where he had a heated argument with her father and later shot himself in the head with a revolver.
The Asian Age reported the comments from a doctor regarding the incident. The doctor said:
“He shot himself from close range. The bullet pierced his head and damaged his brain.”
Based on what Lokhande wrote in a statement on Facebook just before the incident took place, he alleges that his girlfriend’s father asked him to visit their home. He then asked him to kill himself in order to prove his love for the man’s daughter.
Lokhande claimed that should he survive, he would be allowed to marry his longtime girlfriend. He followed this up by adding that if he died, he would like to be taken away from his 27-year-old girlfriend’s house.
Following on from this, he made a statement about his love for his girlfriend, telling her he would not forget her and would love her even after his death.
Before shooting himself, Lokhande made it clear how much he loved his girlfriend on the social media site. He posted this statement on his Facebook page dictating the lengths he was willing to go to, it said:
“Her father asked me to visit their home in the evening and kill myself to prove that I love her daughter. If I survived, he would let me marry her. I am at her residence, take me away from here (if I die). If I survive, I will come back on my own.”
Speaking directly to his girlfriend, he added:
“Many people fall in love, but no one love you like I do… I can’t forget you…Truth is that I don’t want to forget you… Because you are mine. I will love you forever… Till I die and even after that… All lovers give their heart, but only I will give my life.”
Alongside this post, Lokhande reportedly posted several photos of himself and the woman. It is claimed that they had been together in a relationship for 13 years.
According to IB Times, the woman said Lokhande had come to her family house to try to convince her father to let them marry.
However, it is claimed that she ended the relationship after her family rejected the proposal as he was unable to find a decent job.
Hindustan Times has added that since the incident, Lokhande has now been pronounced brain dead. He is currently on a ventilator fighting for his life.
Meanwhile, IB Times adds Lokhande’s parents are looking to file a case of abetment to suicide against the woman’s family. They added that their son was upset after the relationship ended and was looking to rekindle it.
