A police case has been registered and an investigation is underway after a young man was killed during a shootout at an Indian wedding.

The incident happened in the city of Chhapra, Bihar. It was reported that the two families involved had become embroiled in a dispute which eventually led to the shooting.

According to villagers, the dispute was over land among many other things and that it had been going on for several days.

Five people in total were injured in the violent clash including one who later died.

Following the incident, the area remains a tense atmosphere.

The nephew of Dahiawan Mohalla was set to get married. The procession arrived at around 11 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Meanwhile, the son of a man named Kedar Singh travelled to the procession on a bike. Kedar Singh was part of the other family.

There was pre-existing tension between the two families. It culminated in violence when Singh’s son asked to take the procession carriage to the side.

This resulted in an argument before several people from the other side beat up the son.

The son managed to escape and make his way back home where he told his father what had happened. Angered by this, Singh went to the wedding venue with his brother Shambhu Singh.

The brothers, who were armed, turned up at the Indian wedding and began firing.

During the shooting, Ravindra Singh and Abhishek Kumar suffered gunshot wounds. Three others were also injured in the violent clash.

The brothers then fled the scene while the police were called.

Officers arrived at the scene and had the injured people transported to a local hospital in a critical condition. Doctors then referred them to a hospital in Patna.

Whilst undergoing treatment, Ravindra succumbed to his injuries.
