"We were shocked when Megan got dumped"

During her unfiltered interview on the We Need to Talk podcast, Shakira Khan revealed the secret Megan Forte Clarke relationship Love Island viewers didn’t see.

The 22-year-old spoke about the divide between the girls on the show and hit out at the edits, saying the show has erased parts of people’s personalities and relationships.

Chatting to host Paul C Brunson, Shakira claimed viewers never saw the full story and stressed that the edit “has a lot to answer for”, particularly for cutting entire dynamics from the narrative.

She highlighted original islander Megan Forte Clarke as an example of how the show reshaped perceptions.

Shakira revealed: “Megan was, in fact, the glue that held the two girl groups together at times.”

She added that Megan was close with both groups, even though the broadcast suggested otherwise.

Shakira explained: “We were shocked when Megan got dumped [the first time]. The whole villa was shook to their core.

“But seeing how it played out [at home] I get. She gets it. But that’s not the Megan I know. You wouldn’t even know we were friends.

“It fit the narrative of the divide that she was in that group and there was no crossover, but we always said that Megan was ‘the glue’.

“Megan was the glue between the two groups.”

“And, yeah, I had a really good friendship with Megan, and then people were shocked when she came back in that she was friends with us, but we were always friends; it just didn’t get shown.”

Megan previously spoke about the “dramatic” villa divide and claimed it wasn’t as bad as the edit made out.

She told Closer HQ: “When I was watching the last couple of episodes back, I was so surprised to see this divide because when you’re in there, naturally you’ve got closer friends that you go to or whatever and have a chat, but we all spend a lot of time together as well, so I was like, ‘the divide is so dramatic’.

“But in there it’s literally grand. Everyone gets on, everyone’s wearing each other’s stuff, everyone’s doing each other’s hair. Everybody gets on.”
