"That’s a dream come true! That’s dreaming too big!”
Actor Kumail Nanjiani has admitted his love for Bollywood, revealing that he grew up watching Hindi films.
Kumail, who stars as Kingo in Marvel’s Eternals, also revealed who his favourite Bollywood actors are.
The Silicon Valley star explained that he is a “massive fan” of Bollywood films.
He said: “I grew up watching Bollywood and am a massive fan of Bollywood films.
“I have watched Bollywood movies my whole life.”
On his favourite Bollywood stars, Kumail said:
“My favourite stars have been Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Shammi Kapoor.
“I have seen many pictures of all these.
“Mr Amitabh Bachchan. That’s a dream come true! That’s dreaming too big!”
In Eternals, Kumail plays Kingo, a superhero who becomes a popular Bollywood star in order to blend in on Earth.
In one part, Kumail is seen performing an elaborate Bollywood dance scene.
He revealed that particular scene was very difficult for him.
Kumail continued: “The dance sequence – that was what I was most nervous about because I’m not really a natural dancer so I took four months of dance lessons to learn how to do it.”
He admitted that director Chloe Zhao was the reason why he was drawn to the film.
He said:
“Chloe Zhao, I’m a huge fan of hers.”
“I’ve seen all her movies and I just think she’s one of the greatest filmmakers working and the fact that she’s going to do a big Marvel movie and she wanted me in it to play a superhero who’s a Bollywood movie star, it’s like everything I ever wanted coming together at once! I couldn’t believe it.”
Kumail Nanjiani previously opened up about feeling “very uncomfortable” when talking about his body.
He had said: “I’ve found out over the last year and a half, since I did that picture, that I am very uncomfortable talking about my body – and it’s become less and less and less comfortable.”
Meanwhile, Eternals has seen a mixed critical reception.
It currently has a score of 65% on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
As well as Kumail Nanjiani, Eternals also stars Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, and Kit Harington.
The Marvel film is set to release on November 5, 2021.
