"I am confident that this project will touch the hearts of viewers."

Karan Johar is set to collaborate on a new film with producer Guneet Monga.

Guneet is known for her work on films including Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010) and The Lunchbox (2013).

In 2023, she won an Oscar for her documentary The Elephant Whisperers (2022).

The upcoming film will be an official Hindi adaptation of the French comedy film The Intouchables (2011).

The French blockbuster tells the story of two friends – Phillipe (Francois Cluzet) and Bakary “Driss” Bassari (Omar Sy).

Though hailing from contrasting backgrounds, they help each other through many of their obstacles.

Collin D’Cunha will helm the Hindi remake. He assisted on Bollywood hits including Secret Superstar (2017) and Sanju (2018).

The Intouchables was previously remade in English and Spanish. It was also adapted for South Indian cinema.

The Tamil-Telegu adaptation featured Karthi and Akkineni Nagarjuna.

Karan Johar expressed his excitement at bringing the French tale to the Bollywood screen. He commented:

“Working on The Intouchables is a creative challenge and a thrilling opportunity.

“We are committed to bringing the essence of this beloved French film to the Indian audience while infusing it with our cultural sensibilities.

“Collaborating with Guneet once again is an exciting prospect, and I am confident that this project will touch the hearts of viewers across the country.”

Karan and Guneet are also set to work on an action film titled Kill.

Guneet also spoke about her enthusiasm about the adaptation of The Intouchables:

The Intouchables is iconic and one of the most celebrated films around the world.

“It is very exciting to be able to bring that to India and Hindi audiences.

“After a high-octane, action-packed, Kill, we are laying our hands at dramedy which signifies the range of the spectrum of our collaboration with Dharma which we are incredibly excited about.”

Meanwhile, Collin delved into his thrill at the opportunity to direct the project:

“Directing The Intouchables adaptation is an incredible honour for me as a filmmaker.

“The original film left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to bring this story to life for Indian viewers.”

“Working with Karan Johar, Guneet Monga, and the entire team is something I’m greatly excited for and looking forward to.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan is basking in the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).

He also teased a potential reunion with Salman Khan, over 25 years after the release of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).

Karan Johar will also return for Koffee With Karan Season 8. It is set to premiere on Disney+Hotstar on October 26, 2023.
