"Sahu allegedly tied Chhetri with wires."

Priyanshu Thakur, who starred in Jhund (2022), was allegedly murdered by a friend on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

The actor was 21 years old when he died, while his accused killer was aged 20.

Priyanshu’s alleged murderer has been reported as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu.

A source stated that Priyanshu and Sahu would often drink alcohol together.

As Priyanshu played Babu Chhetri in Jhund, the report referred to him as his character’s surname.

It said: “After midnight on Tuesday, Sahu and Chhetri travelled by Sahu’s motorcycle to an abandoned house in the Jaripatka area for a drinking session.

“This occurred a few hours before Chhetri was found injured early Wednesday morning.”

The source added that Priyanshu had reportedly threatened Sahu during an argument and then fell asleep.

“Fearing harm, Sahu allegedly tied Chhetri with wires and attacked him with a sharp weapon.”

After being attacked, Priyanshu was apparently left half-naked and bound with plastic wires.

He was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced the actor dead.

According to NDTV, Senior Inspector Arun Kshirsaga, said: “Sahu has confessed to the crime.”

Priyanshu Thakur was praised for his performance in Jhund.

Shortly after the film was released, he was arrested for stealing Rs 5 lakhs (£4,230).

Jhund was based on the life of the sports coach, Vijay Barse, who formed a football team out of children raised in slums.

In the film, the character was renamed Vijay Borade, and was played by Amitabh Bachchan.

The movie was directed by Nagraj Manjule.

In 2022, Amitabh spoke about working with Priyanshu and the rest of the young actors who portrayed the football players.

He said: “All of them are naturals that came from the atmosphere you see in the film – the slums.

“Each of them has had the same kind of existence so succinctly portrayed.

“They spoke their own language, and what they felt the situation needed.

“Nothing was predetermined, and that was the beauty of their performance.”

“They lived their lives on screen as they lived in their real distraught circumstances.

“Each story of theirs was an eye-opener.

“Nagaraj Ji tried to bring it out in one scene, and that was riveting and so very emotional.

“When you see suffering and pain in the young being reflected by a smile, it is the most unbearable emotion!”

Unfortunately, Jhund was a box-office failure, grossing Rs 15 crores (£12 million) against a budget of £22 crores (£18 million).
