Through a sinister scheme, Anisah Ahmed tried to destroy the reputation of a barrister with whom she was having an affair.

Her plans to destroy Iqbal Mohammed will be explored in the ITV documentary The Real Fatal Attraction.

The documentary film draws parallels between Ahmed’s crimes and the plot of the 1987 film Fatal Attraction.

In the film, Alex (Glenn Close) begins an affair with Dan (Michael Douglas) but becomes infuriated when he tries to end the fling.

Her bid to get revenge reaches a shocking height when Dan comes home to find his girlfriend’s rabbit boiling in a pot on his stove.

The real-life case began when Iqbal received a LinkedIn request from Ahmed, whose profile said she was a young lawyer from Oxford.

Ahmed followed up her request with an email that included 10 questions about Iqbal’s career history and salary.

Iqbal deleted the messages because he thought they seemed “haughty”.

Three years later, Ahmed sent another LinkedIn request.

This time, Iqbal accepted and the pair began flirting. They soon had an affair, lasting nine months.

Iqbal was married during this time, something Iqbal claimed she was unaware of.

Furious at the discovery of his marriage on social media, she contacted Iqbal’s wife and came clean about the affair.

Her sinister plot continued by forging emails from his work account and claiming that Iqbal was harassing her.

Ahmed also told police that Iqbal was threatening to post intimate pictures of her online.

The initial plan failed and a criminal investigation into harassment began.

Ahmed went a step further and falsely accused Iqbal of rape, which led to his arrest in June 2015.

She also staged her own kidnapping and recruited a former boyfriend to help her. Ahmed asked him to stab her but when he refused, she plunged the blade into her thigh.

Ahmed told police she had been kidnapped by a hitman who Iqbal had hired. In the ambulance, she mentioned her ex-lover’s name after she had phoned the police and claimed to have escaped from a killer.

Eventually, her story fell apart under scrutiny and she was arrested.

Iqbal said he is grateful to his wife for being able to forgive him, after a period of separation.

Everything Ahmed had told Iqbal had been a lie.

Her stories of rescuing 10 prisoners from the death penalty in Malawi were completely fake, just like her diploma in forensic medical science.

This discovery caused her to be disbarred in 2018.

Ahmed’s ex-boyfriend was given a suspended two-year sentence and was ordered to pay £2,000 in prosecution fees, alongside his 150 hours of unpaid work.

Anisah Ahmed became the first person to receive a life sentence for perverting the course of justice in April 2021 but seven months later, her sentence was overturned by the Court of Appeal, who changed her prison term to 10 years.

After spending less than four years in jail, Ahmed has been released.

She is under a home detention curfew, which means she has to wear an electronic tag and can only leave her home at certain times.

Slamming the “disgraceful” decision, Mohammed Iqbal said:

“I can’t believe nobody bothered to bloody tell me this before. It’s unbelievable. I’ve been completely left in the dark.”

The Real Fatal Attraction examines Anisah Ahmed’s criminal scheme and will air on November 13, 2024. Afterwards, it will be available to stream on ITVX.
