"Yeah, so, we had dinner like a week ago."
Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has revealed where her loyalties lie in The Summer I Turned Pretty fandom, confirming she’s officially Team Conrad.
The Pakistani activist, who’s become known for her candid and humorous takes on pop culture, joined in on the fan debate during a playful segment with People magazine.
In the game, Malala’s husband, Asser Malik, was asked to guess whether she supports Conrad or Jeremiah from the hit Prime Video series.
Without hesitation, he got it right.
“She’s Team Conrad,” Asser confidently declared, confirming Malala’s preference for the brooding, quietly romantic Fisher brother played by Christopher Briney.
The Summer I Turned Pretty follows teenager Belly Conklin, portrayed by Lola Tung, as she navigates love, friendship and heartbreak during her transformative summers with the Fisher brothers.
Based on Jenny Han’s best-selling trilogy, the series stars Briney as Conrad and Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah, with Lola Tung’s Belly caught in an emotional love triangle between the two.
In the story’s conclusion, Belly ultimately chooses Conrad, a decision that left fans deeply divided between the two fiercely defended teams.
Malala also shared her enthusiasm for the series during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she delighted fans by admitting she’s an avid viewer.
When Jimmy asked if she’d watched the show, Malala responded without hesitation: “Of course, yes!” before revealing a personal connection with its creator, Jenny Han.
The activist recalled having dinner with the author, saying, “Yeah, so, we had dinner like a week ago, and I even asked. Are you Team Conrad or Jeremiah?”

According to Malala, Jenny Han diplomatically replied that both characters are like her children, explaining that she loves them all equally and can’t pick a side.
The light-hearted exchange comes as Malala celebrates the release of her new memoir, Finding My Way, which delves into her personal growth and evolving identity.
Meanwhile, The Summer I Turned Pretty continues to dominate streaming charts, with its third and final season drawing record-breaking numbers for Prime Video.
The latest season has earned an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its reputation as a fan favourite.
Following its July 2025 premiere, the show attracted 25 million viewers worldwide within its first week, eventually reaching 70 million after 70 days.
Amazon confirmed the final season became its most-watched title globally, hitting number one in over 140 countries and surpassing the viewership of its previous instalments.
Malala’s unexpected fandom moment once again shows her light-hearted and relatable side, proving even global icons can’t resist a good love triangle.
