The police have arrested a YouTuber for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman before posting a video of the crime on social media platforms.

The accused, identified as Rajiv Kumar, was presented before a court and sent to 14 days’ judicial custody on December 11, 2020.

The matter came to light when a resident of Noida approached the police and filed a complaint saying she had been drugged, raped, and blackmailed.

She alleged that the accused had recorded a video of the crime and used it to blackmail her and later posted it on social media.

Gautam Buddha Nagar DCP (women’s protection) Vrinda Shukla said the woman registered a complaint at the Noida Sector 39 Police Station on October 27, 2020.

The woman told police officers that she befriended Kumar through social media.

The YouTuber invited her to meet him at an address in Noida Sector 39.

Upon her arrival, the accused offered the victim a drink which was allegedly laced with an intoxicating substance.

The woman allegedly lost consciousness soon after consuming the drink. The accused then raped her and recorded a video of the crime.

The woman also accused Rajiv Kumar of blackmailing her into giving him Rs. 13 Lakh (£13,000) by threatening to post the video of the crime on social media.

He posted the video even after she paid him the sum.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vrinda Shukla said the accused was arrested on December 11, 2020, on the basis of the woman’s complaint.

The accused is a YouTuber who teaches fitness techniques which is how he first came in contact with the complainant.

In another reported incident in Bhopal, a 35-year-old filed a complaint against her “childhood friend” of repeatedly raping her over a span of nine years.

The victim alleged that the accused who was her former neighbour and friend had outraged her modesty in 2011.

When she protested about the incident, the accused threatened her with their phone and text conversations.

He threatened to reveal and defame her before her marriage if she dared to inform anyone.

The terrified woman agreed to remain quiet and since then, the accused has raped her multiple times at different opportunities.

Police officer Mahendra Singh Thakur stated:

“The woman alleged that fed up of routine harassment, she somehow mustered courage and approached the cops to lodge a complaint against her childhood friend.”

The officer added that a case of rape has been filed against the accused on December 2, 2020, and subsequent investigation is underway.
