"Rohit threatened her of dire consequences"
A woman in Kanpur has lodged a police complaint against a man, accusing him of secretly filming her while she was bathing.
He later used the video to blackmail her for a sexual relationship.
The complainant also alleged that the accused raped her when she resisted.
According to the police, the victim stays with her in-laws at a village under the limits of Mangalpul Police Station in the district. Her husband, a private company employee, lives in Delhi.
The accused, Rohit alias Babu, resides near the woman’s house.
In May 2020, Babu allegedly recorded a video of the woman while she was bathing in the ceiling-less bathroom of her house.
Later, in the night, he barged into her house. He told her that he would circulate the video on social media platforms if she refuses to have a sexual relationship with him.
Police sources have alleged:
“When she tried to resist, Rohit threatened her of dire consequences, pointed a gun on her and then raped her.”
After the incident, the affected woman narrated her ordeal to her husband, following which he arrived from Delhi and filed a police complaint.
However, the local police did not act towards the complaint.
The couple then approached the court, following which the police registered a case against the accused on judicial directions.
Investigations into the case are underway. The Inspector of Mangalpur Police Station, Amod Kumar Singh said:
“On the instructions of the court, an FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged against Rohit and further investigations are underway in this regard.”
Meanwhile, four people, including two women and an unidentified accused, were arrested on November 22, 2020, for the brutal burning of a Dalit girl last month.
The accused allegedly burned alive the 15-year-old girl.
The FIR which had been lodged under the attempt to kill will now be converted to that of murder. The girl succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the girl was earlier allegedly raped by a local resident and the family was being pressured to withdraw her complaint.
The FIR filed by the family says the seven people arrested entered their home and set her ablaze using petrol.
In a video of the victim in a hospital, she can be heard purportedly saying:
“There was an ongoing case of molestation by the same people who came today…”
Bulandshahr SSP Santosh Kumar Singh said:
“In August, a girl was raped by a man. He was arrested. The accused is currently in jail.
“On Tuesday, we received information that the same girl has been set on fire under suspicious circumstances.
“Till 11 pm, it appeared she had attempted suicide. But as per the family’s complaint, seven people tried to immolate her.”
According to the victim’s family, those accused of setting her on fire are relatives and acquaintances of the accused, who is in prison for allegedly raping the minor.
