“He would still go to her house and create a ruckus."
Police arrested an Indian wife on Monday, September 7, 2020, for allegedly killing her husband. The incident happened in Mumbai.
According to police, the 38-year-old woman first bludgeoned her husband with a hammer, injuring him before using a pillow to smother him to death.
She then spent the night next to the body before calling the police and admitting to her crime the next morning.
The woman was identified as Vaishali Bhakare. She works for a private firm in Dadar.
Officers revealed that she lived with her husband Ashok on the first floor of Shanti Smruti building in Chembur until 2016.
One police officer said: “Ashok was allegedly an alcoholic. He would often abuse and assault her.”
As well as frequently abusing Bhakare, Ashok would also hit their two daughters.
As a result, Bhakare decided to move out. She ended up living on the second floor of the same building.
However, her estranged husband would continue to abuse her, going to her apartment to create trouble.
Police explained: “He would still go to her house and create a ruckus.
“Around 1.30 am on Monday, Ashok went to her house in an inebriated state. She was sleeping. He started kicking the door.”
After entering the house, it was alleged that Ashok started abusing and beating his wife.
Their daughters had been staying at their grandmother’s house at the time.
After assaulting his wife, Ashok, who was intoxicated, passed out.
The officer said: “Their two daughters had gone to Vaishali’s mother’s place. As he was heavily drunk, he subsequently passed out.”
In a fit of rage, the Indian wife grabbed a hammer and began hitting her husband while he was unconscious. She then smothered him to death with a pillow.
After realising what she had done, Bhakare stayed with her husband’s body for the rest of the night.
At 11:11 am that day, she called the police. Another officer said:
“After we went to her residence, she surrendered.”
The victim’s body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital. Officers also seized the hammer and pillow.
Meanwhile, Bhakare was arrested and booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
She was produced in Kurla Court before being remanded in custody.
In another incident, a woman and her daughter were arrested for strangling her abusive husband to death. They later dumped his body.
Police launched an investigation and discovered the body in an open drain.
