Indian student Vikas Kumar, aged 16, of Panchkula, Haryana was attacked by 15 to 20 youths outside his school which resulted in his death on Monday, September 17, 2018.
It was heard that the Class 11 student at Government Senior Secondary School had just stepped outside the gate when he was attacked.
Students who witnessed the attack said that the attackers were dressed in uniform.
Two suspects have been arrested. One of which, who is a student at the school stabbed Vikas to death during the attack.
The prime suspect is said to be in Class nine at the school.
Witnesses saw the youths first get into a scuffle with Vikas before one struck him with a knife.
The other is a student at the Industrial Training Institute in the city.
Suraj, a friend of Vikas, tried to help him which caused him to get hurt in the ensuing melee.
Staff member Vinod chased the attackers away and said they fled towards Manimajra.
He saw the teenagers standing at a distance from the school.
Vinod said: “I found it suspicious when they were standing and waiting.”
“To avoid any brawl, which usually takes place among students of this age, I shooed them away.”
“By the time I went into the school again for some work, I got to know that Vikas had been stabbed.”
After the attack, Vikas was rushed to Civil Hospital.
However, he died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Suraj was given first aid for an injured hand.
Doctors said that a single injury to the left side of the victim’s chest led to his instant death.
The victim’s parents staged a protest on Tuesday, September 18, initially refusing for a post-mortem to be conducted until the killers are arrested.
However, they allowed the post-mortem to be conducted.
They also alleged that the police are not taking the matter seriously and demanded quick action when they blocked the Kalka-Shimla road.
It was heard that the crime was committed by the suspect as an act of revenge.
According to Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Jorwal, Vikas slapped the suspect on Saturday, September 15, 2018, for snatching his friend’s mobile phone.
Inspector Arvind Kumar said: “The accused had taken the mobile of Vikas’ friend following which Vikas slapped him on Saturday when he got to know about it.”
“The accused then brought other youths and got him killed.”
It is reported that some of the attackers were former students of the school.
DCP Jorwal added: “The two accused have been arrested and charged under the Justice Juvenile Act, 2015.”
“They will be sent to a juvenile home for questioning.”
